Hard to say. None of those are my favs from said filmmakers, so I would go with the safe choice, being more popular, Breathless. Plus it's loaded with features and a short, so can't go wrong.

Probably Paris, Texas. Breathless might be a somewhat better blind buy candidate (though I wouldn't say any of them are good bb material) but of the three I connected most strongly with and most enjoyed Paris, Texas.

Paris, Texas without a doubt. I think it is such a masterpiece, as you can tell from my picture.

On a side note, I watched Kuroneko for the first time last night. It was an incredibly rich film, in my opinion. I really enjoyed the dark eerie atmosphere and settings. I thought it was a well-done little horror film. Definitely glad I picked it up.

Just watched BLUE....excellent film..WHITE next..mistakenly watched RED first....this is one fine film collection as you probably already know

Just watched Pale Flower this morning for the first time. What an enjoyable film! I really liked the Shinoda interview as well. Interesting how they recorded the sound of tap dancers, and had the sound of shuffling cards bleed into it.

Watching The Phantom Carriage right now, about 45 minutes into the movie. I am just completely taken by this movie, amazing!

Just thinking about it, I can't recall any others dropping extra edits, but I only have around 300 Citerions (DVD & Blu) so I don't have their entire library. I know there are a few titles that may have dropped an extra feature or two in the transition from DVD to blu.

I emailed Mulvaney about The Last Emperor shortly after the blu-ray came out. He said that there just wasn't enough demand for the blu-ray format (at that time) and the cost for buyers would be too high to justify a release including the extended cut of the film.

It was interesting watching the supplements apparently Hitler was an avid Hollywood movie fan. Even though Goebbels wanted to show more German cinema the people and Hitler enjoyed viewing American movies more. Snow White and King Kong being among his favorites.

It's a tough call between Breathless and Paris, Texas. I think the latter is a bit more accessible, but neither should disappoint you. Plus, two regulars here use stills from Paris, Texas as their avatars!

The Magician is good as well, but a distant third in this race.

I don't mind being that guy.

it gets a discussion going and I've been able to enjoy some amazing films because of all of your recommendations.

The axe and door scene in The Phantom Carriage is such a ripoff from The Shining. Stanley Kubrick should sue.

Just kidding that scene just really reminded me of The Shinning.
