agreed. there is no need to upgrade, the extras aren't worth the money to me.

Coney Island - Lonesome
Motor Onomatopoeia - Week End
Big Motorcycle - Quadrophenia
Small Motorcycle - Harold and Maude

Maude looks very Inuit like so she could be a double clue for Nanook of the North

I know there are other threads and places for this but most of you don't post much outside of this thread here.

So to all my fellow Criterion fans, I wish you all a Happy New Year and I hope all your favorites are released on Blu-ray for 2012

I have it pre-ordered and I don't have the universal version. Should I keep my pre-order or just get the Universal version?

I'm way excited for Repo Man. I might double-dip on the steelbook. Have one to watch and the other to keep sealed. While we're on the subject of Alex Cox movies, what chance to you give Sid & Nancy being re-licensed by Criterion for Blu-ray? I know it's gotta be low, but doesn't hurt to dream.

IMO 'Something Wild' boggles my mind why it got the Criterion treatment. An average film at best! And 'Sid & Nancy' was such a distorted view of the real events that the film was almost a cartoon of itself! Gary Oldman IS great though. If you want a Sex Pistols Criterion on BD it should be 'The Great Rock-n-Roll Swindle' that gets the Criterion treatment

I don't think there's one criterion 2012 release that interests me at this point.

Am I the only person that loves Something Wild? The first half is a great screwball comedy and it's one of the only movies that successfully pulls off the old Warner Bros trick (two scripts condensed into one film). I didn't think it was going to receive a bluray release, let alone be given the criterion treatment.

2012 for me, Criterion has already (in 3 months) announced as much films as I got from them all of this past year. I say it's starting off pretty good.

So far, so good ! Just from the possible hints I can tell I am extremely excited for Lonesome, Quadrophenia, Week End and Nanook of the North . Also, does anybody noticed the skull-shaped necklace of the Inuit gir/boy riding the motorcycle? Don't really have idea to what possibly it may hint.

I really enjoyed Something Wild. It was a blind buy for me during the July Criterion sale at B&N. I enjoyed it far more than Silence of the Lambs (I think the film's a bit overrated to be honest), which a lot of people seem to think is Demme's best film. It seems as though most post 1975 Criterions get crapped on the most. Both Something Wild and Blow Out, which came out relatively close together, get crapped on a fair bit. Something Wild was shown out of Competition at the 1987 Cannes.

I have at least one pre-order for both January and February. I'm a little underwhelmed by March so far, but I'm sure once I watch Letter Never Sent, I'll be more interested in it. I'm hoping April will be a little more fabulous. At least I'm down to about 13 "first-tier" Criterion wants. Some may be moved to the second tier, which is sitting at about 17 or so right now though. There's just too many interesting Criterions out there.

Doesn't look skull shaped to me. More round with a 5 pointed star. Rosemary's Baby has been speculated.

since you do not already own it i would say yes. if i didn't own it i'd be in. i don't know how much i'd listen to the commentaries but they are included. you maybe able to find the universal version for a lot less money but if the CT is needed then the choice is easy. either way:

EPIC FILM

I've actually never seen the movie before, but it looks like one I would enjoy. The CT version isn't needed, but I'd like to make my collection bigger .

I haven't seen any Cox outside of Repo Man and Sid & Nancy. Mostly heard bad things, but I'm willing to give 'em a chance. Doesn't Criterion have the rights to Walker?

Wouldn't mind The Great Rock-n-Roll Swindle to be released by Criterion, but if we're gonna dream of a punk documentary getting the Crit treatment, I'm voting for New York Doll.

As far as Sid & Nancy, I realize, that like all movies, it's a poor representation of real events. I don't expect a two hour movie to accurately portray a time period spanning years. It doesn't sour anything for me. I think dissing an entertaining movie for bending the facts is like praising a boring movie for being truthful.

Anyways, the fact is that most people who dismiss this particular movie knew the real Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen as much as I did, which is not at all.

It's early. Don't be let down.

Obviously, someone at Criterion thinks it was good enough to release. I really enjoyed it, even if I found it flawed. Just read my review. (No, the shameless plugs will not end.) Then again, my tastes differ from a lot of the people here. I'd personally like the big C, as no one calls them, to get their hands on Glen or Glenda. If you thought House was weird...

As for 2012, if Harold and Maude is truly a release, that's not bad. Fiend Without a Face would be nice to port to Blu. It's not great, but it's worth it for the climax.
