Funny you should list that and even funnier you should list it in that order.

I was just thinking about that exchange within the last day or three and my big epiphany was 82 should be the supplement to a Val Lewton release and not the other way around. That would pave the way for way cooler art and supplements.

[Show spoiler]this is still a great idea, if it ever happens I'll still get you one but if it is a box set I might have to rethink my earlier no-coupon pledge

Rebecca (most likely won't happen now)
Rashomon
Hopscotch
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
The Killers Set
Throne of Blood
The Lower Depths Set
The River
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (shock, horror, an Anderson!)
The Bad Sleep Well
Young Mr. Lincoln
The Virgin Spring
Kind Hearts and Coronets
The Burmese Harp
Ace in the Hole
The Thief of Bagdad
Z
Ivan the Terrible Pts. I & II
Those are good bets, imo. Some of those are all but confirmed, too. (Like Col. Blimp and The Virgin Spring)

I'd love to see Ace in the Hole in time for summer. It's one of those films I enjoy watching most when it's hot--- just as it is in the film

I listed them in order of personal preference, and chronological order. I think it would be a great box set, kinda like a Fanny and Alexander, The Lower Depths, The Killers, or even The Leopard type deal, so it would be a bit pricier than say Senso or Gojira, which also include English cuts/"remake" versions. I watched the Simone Simon films back to back on TCM in October, and really enjoyed them. I really think Criterion

[Show spoiler]The set would totally be acceptable for coupon usage, as it would be above 40 bucks. Also, it's not like you're going to do a big Criterion order and ring all of the items in separately to use the coupon on each title.

Speaking of Fanny and Alexander, I finally watched the theatrical version last night courtesy of a TCM PVR from before Christmas. I wasn't really enamoured with it until
[Show spoiler]Oscar passed away, Emilie married the Bishop, and everything went to hell.
I think I may have to watch it again to appreciate it more, but I unfortunately will wait until a sale occurs, and I clear up some of my other wishlist backlogs.

I would love to see Criterion put together the definitive BD edition of Night of the living dead. As far as I am aware, a company named Elite Entertainment currently has what is considered the definitive edition. Of course, it is only available on DVD, though.

The dream situation would be fully restored, and complete prints, of the original NOTLD (1968) and the 1990 remake by Savini.

I still like playing the wish list game - and will demonstrate that presently - but I'm becoming more and more of the mind that I'm far better off if they listen to me sparingly at best.

I'd love to see them upgrade...

Throne of Blood
Elevator to the Gallows
Bob le Flambuer
The Vanishing
Element of Crime
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold
Spartacus (with a side of Fear and Desire, please)

...and get...

Timecrimes
The Asphalt Jungle
The Hunger
Play Misty for Me
The Long Goodbye (not a big Altman fan but Elliott Gould as Philip Marlowe actually works - whodathunkit)
Take the Money and Run (or even better - What's up, Tiger Lily?)

Buuut that all said, I absolutely flat-out hands down loved things like Kes and Naked and People on Sunday and Pale Flower and none of them were even remotely close to being on my radar.

So what the hell do I really know.

Nice to see someone else that thinks well of the remake. It had some beautiful camera work, didn't use its Savini-ism to go overboard on gore and I like some of the changes they brought to the original characters and situations to make it not a slavish retread.

+1

No one should ignore Leon Morin, Priest ! One of my favorite films in the Collection and a blind-buy for me when I bought it the last sale. Way too under-appreciated.

No, they will not. Fox Searchlight already has dibs on distribution.
Criterion will also not be releasing Drive or Melancholia.

Hoped for Upgrades:
All That Heaven Allows
L'Avventura
L'Eclisse
Les Enfants du Paradis
- this one should be coming
Jules et Jim
Le Samourai
- this one should be coming
Shoot the Piano Player

New Title Hopefuls:
After Hours - with Who's That Knocking at My Door? as a bonus!
Greed
La Dolce Vita
- doubtful for Criterion, but can hope
La Notte

Hm. That's pretty unfortunate. I still can't wait to get that film either way. I thought it was brilliant.

Looks like in Pro-B's opinion, the Traffic disc is slightly better than the Universal release. Maybe all the experts with their screenshots can keep their Universal disc then...

Talking upgrades, that's a completely different list altogether.

Some upgrades I would like to see:

Great Expectations
Oliver Twist
Häxan
The King of Kings
Nanook of the North
Pandora’s Box
The Passion of Joan of Arc
Lord of the Flies
The Most Dangerous Game
Insomnia
Carnival of Souls
Chasing Amy (I know...but I love this film and the current BD isn't that good)
Sisters
The Blob
Beastie Boys Video Anthology
Grey Gardens
The Beales of Grey Gardens
Man Bites Dog
Down by Law
Night on Earth
Schizopolis
Naked Lunch
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
Slacker
My Own Private Idaho
Mala Noche
The Complete Mr. Arkadin
F for Fake
The Virgin Spring
Equinox
Vampyr
Brand upon the Brain
The Element of Crime
Europa
The Fugitive Kind
Night Train to Munich

I am sure there are many more if I took the time to dig around the collection some more.

It's funny, I was thinking if it'd be done by Criterion before... but now I am so anxious for it to be released (loved it so much) that I really don't care who does it, I just want to own it as soon as possible.

Yeah, I had high hopes about Criterion adding Melancholia to the collection. I must admit I was rather disappointed when I saw they weren't getting it.

The more I think about this the more I want it to happen. The complete and utter meltdown would be more than worth the price of admission.

The Usual Suspects would go ballistic for the usual reasons and the Other Usual Suspects would go batshit crazy over the $120+ MSRP (for catalog double-dips, no less).

It would be the perfect storm.

It would be great to have a bunch of Riefenstahl releases. I would gladly add Olympia to my collection. What about The Blue Light (Das Blaue Licht)? Seeing how Criterion loves to have "first-features" in the Collection it would be pretty interesting .
