Criterion has acknowledged the issues with Carlos and Three Colors: White, but I don't think Criterion has said anything about the framing issue with Blue or that there will be a replacement disc for it (unless I missed those posts).

drbikeshorts, this is the framing issue with Blue as compared to the Miramax DVD, but note what Vauba has to say about it:

I looked at the screencap comparisons on DVDBeaver and there is also an Artificial Eye DVD and a MK 2 Blu-Ray. The MK 2 Blu-ray looks like it has the exact same framing, and the Artificial Eye is slightly different but more similar to the Blu-Rays than the Mirimax DVD. The Mirimax is sometimes more zoomed out in all directions, and sometimes more cut off at the top. Bottom line is I'm not counting on the Mirimax framing to be the "correct" one.
AreaUnderTheCurve, this is the audio issue with Carlos:

John Mulvaney finally responded to my question about this issue:

"Hello and thank you for your email.

We are aware of this problem on our end and are preparing a corrected run of this disc. These discs are expected to be available December. At that time, we'll reach-out to you with details on exchanging your disc for a new one, directly from us. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and thank you for supporting Criterion!

Best,

Jon Mulvaney"

So if you got Carlos, then you'll want to get on their mailing lists to get a fixed version of disc 2. Once again Criterion proves why their the best at what it is that they do.

Concerning the Carlos replacement...

Quote:
Hello Chris and Happy New Year,

Good news! We are glad to report we've received the corrected WHITE disc. We will be exchanging the Blu-ray discs directly from our New
York office. Please send your WHITE disc, disc only please, to my attention at the address below. With the disc, please include your
email address and postal address. Please do not include any packaging with your disc. When we receive your disc, we will send you the
corrected copy and a $10 gift certificate to Criterion.com! The corrected CARLOS discs are not yet ready. If you would prefer to
wait, and send your two discs together, that is no problem. We will send out another email when the CARLOS replacement disc is ready.
Thank you for your patience while we were sorting out this audio issue!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, and
thank you for supporting Criterion!

Best,

Jon

A little over a week to go before announcements, I wonder which clues will be announced over the next few days, and which ones from the postcard will be revealed.

I haven't had time to watch the third episode. But that's not the point: they released a defective product that I paid nearly $40 for. Get off my ass.

I find it strange that there haven't been any issues in the past 2-3 years or so with their blu rays, yet there are defects on two of their most recent ones?

Do you think Criterion is getting a little care-free and working too fast to release 5 or 6 films each month? I'd say they should go back to releasing 3 or 4 a month, and spend enough time to make sure they are perfect the first time around. (It'd also be a lot easier on my wallet).

They are most likely honest mistakes. They are making up for them with replacements, so there's not much to complain about.

I think they are OK. Like you said, it is not something that happens frequently and when it does happen they always try to fix it and compensate their customers. After all, these are just 2 releases in the 60+ released last year .

I will say The Gold Rush and Being John Malkovich will be April titles.

Not trying to give you a hard time.... just trying to figure out why you would want them to compensate you in any other way than a replacement disc, especially since you showed that no hardship was created to you. It's not like you had friends over, watched the disc, and had to stop it etc....

This is how I feel, which makes me wonder why any $10 or other amount of compensation is necessary

It wouldn't bother me if I didn't get one. I said that because it's being offered for the WHITE replacements, so I assume it would be the same for Carlos. It would be nice so I could use that towards the purchase of a future title.
