I need to wait until they get the Carlos replacement discs, though. |

The German Universum edition - which I own - features the most recent restoration on this film undertaken in Germany. It features a slight picture upgrade to the Criterion and Moc/Eureka editions, but the biggest upgrade is on the audio front where the noise floor if significantly reduced. You can find out more about this release and its differences here on this site: Interview with one of the restoration artists, Torsten Kaiser: https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=6885 Review: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/M-Blu-ray/18091/#Review Each release of this film on its own is stellar though, featuring extras that are unique to its edition. I really liked this film a lot and cannot recommend it high enough. The Universum release does look as if it is an excellent release, and (from my understanding) it could be debated either way as to which release is the "best". Please note that I have not seen the Universum edition, so I am merely going by what I have read, not experienced. Either way, I am sure you would be pleased with either edition. ![]() The Thin Red Line is an excellent film as well, and I still have my old DVD of it, bit IMO it wasn't quite the "art of film making" type of piece that M was, if that makes sense. ![]() ![]() Having said that, I think you would be happy with either purchase. Both films are quite different from one another as well, so they are two very different experiences and must be looked at as such. ![]() |

Haven't seen either one yet. Ambivalent about Thin Red Line, but a little embarrassed about not seeing M. Given that Peter Lorre stars and Fritz Lang directs I'd go with M on pedigree alone. |

Your best bet is to buy what ones you really want in order of priority, and if something DOES go OOP, you have plenty of time to find it online/in-a-store before the stock runs out. Even Criterion directly will have a decent supply from the time they announce a title as being OOP, until the time they no longer have any. |

Seems like it would be a great complement to The BBS Story..... Criterion, are you listening? |

Heres a real odd question....Do you think if you write to Criterion you can get some of those blue stickers from the outer covers? I like to peel them off and stick to the case after I open them but some have torn trying to get them off the wrapping. Yes, I know its odd

I pre-ordered the Pathfinder dvd set when it first came out, but it arrived with one of the discs loose and rather scratched up, which is probably a good thing because it gave me a chance to read the pq reviews and an excuse to return it and just wait for somebody to do it right. Still waiting... Last edited by fdm; 01-06-2012 at 05:36 AM. |
