Seems like it would be a great complement to The BBS Story..... Criterion, are you listening?
Thanks for helping to pass it on and signing yourself.

And blu-ray, I hope. If the film is to be saved might as well offer it in the best presentation available.

That's cool, Joe. Just wanted to be clear that region locking was not an issue when considering the Universum.

I'm still waiting for Branded to Kill from B&N and Cul de Sac from a trade (might even be in today, I have no way of tracking it), because Canada Post just finally updated the status on Tokyo Drifter and Smiles of a Summer Night to "Out for delivery," after claiming that they were sitting in Ontario for the past 3 days.

My mom should be happy too, as Season 1 of the Tudors came today as well. I had initially ordered the DVD set from Chapters on the 15th of December to get free shipping on a book I wanted, and she was going to pay me back the 30 bucks. As of this past Tuesday, Chapters still hadn't sent out the damn DVDs, but had long since sent my book, so I still ended up with free shipping. I cancelled her DVDs, and went to Amazon.ca and ordered the BD set for 5 bucks more. Poor Heather Reisman will be beside herself, because I stated in my cancellation that Amazon could get it to me cheaper and faster than they could. She wants to have a monopoly on books, films, and crappy knick knacks (not cool Knick Knacks like in James Bond).

Off subject but The Tudors are way cheaper from the UK I think and are region free.

I know, but these arrived far quicker, and my mother can't be arsed to use the UK site. She'll be ordering the next 3 seasons on her own. The shipment arrived much quicker than I'm used to expecting from Amazon.ca actually. Ordered Tuesday with free shipping, Amazon.ca shipped them the same day, and they arrived 3 days later to the boonies of Nova Scotia?

Back on subject, which should I watch first? Tokyo Drifter or Smiles of a Summer Night? Or Cul de Sac if happens to be there as well?

I'm happy that "The Beaver" has their 2011 Best DVD/Blu-Ray lists up...but's what with that being the only option on their website? You can't see/get to any other pages and/or listings.

BTW Pat...I finished watching the rest of the Shimizu Eclipse set...WONDERFUL!

I think "The Masseurs and a Woman" is the best film in the set, but "Ornamental Hairpin" is my personal favorite of the four. Lots of familar Shochiku actors, plus two of my favorite Ozu actors: Chishu Ryu and Kinuyo Tanaka.

Don't click on 'Home'.

If you want to look at the reviews just click on the 'Film/DVD Reviews' text.

I'm pretty sure all of the other links work. The home page is the only one affected by the year-end-poll, I believe.

I like some of DVDBeavers reviews, but that site has always been a mess.

Not all of us!

Also, this changes things slightly. Apparently, not only did I receive Tokyo Drifter and Smiles of a Summer Night in the mail, my mother tells me that Cul de Sac did indeed show up, along with my B&N order of Branded to Kill. I won't be heading home until tomorrow morning, but now which one should I watch first?

This will be for me on the next sale I think along with Rossellinis History Films Renaisance & Enlightement they are just too expensive right now to get them.

M, Cul de Sac and I care very deeply about bus stops.

Okay, now that I'm caught up...has anybody seen Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff? Is it a supplement on any the CC releases he worked on?

TCM played it a couple times last night and it was really good. It was far less about his life than his work but it was really interesting and really made me want to take a closer look at his stuff.

The Red Shoes is a perfect example. It's always been one of those things I felt like I should watch and I planned to get around to it eventually. But now I'm really itching to see it (and not on cable, either).

Those Eclipse sets are very good and sometimes so overlook by most. The quality is wonderful and you can have some amazing movies in some of those sets that will probably not be in Blu-ray for a long while.
