Look at the DVDs, they went from the regular amarays, to the thicker ones, to the cardboard ones. Doesn't look uniform either.
I agree. I really like Last Year at Marienbad's embossed case and I too would rather just buy new films.

Apologies if this was already mentioned, but I wonder if the financial woes of IMAGE could possibly derail the release of Criterion BDs such as CHE. Anyone with knowledge of the situation? TIA.

Anything is possible but I would think the discs are close to if not already produced and waiting to be packaged together or simply mailed to retail and reviewers. So I would say no. But anything is possible.

All of them look exactly the same as the slipcase versions save Marienbad which has the lettering in black. If you haven;lt seen what the new cases look like in general you can just go to BB or BnN and see what they look like.

Does anyone have any pics of the clear Criterion cases side by side with regular blue Blu-ray cases?

Default What is your Criterion Collection resolution....

It was my goal to improve my Criterion Collection in 2009...have two or three more titles coming in but I'm good for the year!

It was a great year for Criterion 40-50% off sales in 2009... Let's hope for more Criterion goodness in 2010 and everyone get the titles they really want!!!

Nice collection, kndy. Are you not separating your Criterion blu-rays from your DVDs, or did you put them all together for photographic purposes?

Based on your collection photo (which was very nice, fyi) I would think it would make little difference to you. You already have some clear case CC blus so you know what to expect and outside of Marienbad having black lettering on the spine and more highlights on the front cover to make the writing stand out the artwork and spines are identical between both versions save slight dimension changes.

I think the decision should come down to whether or not you like the clear cases and if you intend on putting all your criterion blus together, which in this case, they look much better in uniform clear cases then mixed or straight up cardboard.

Hi ccfixx,

My Criterion Blu-rays were originally together with my other Blu-rays (alphabetized) and my Criterion DVD's were once alphabetized with my other DVD's but I decided last month that I want my Criterions to go in their numeric order.

In a way, I'm starting to enjoy having my Criterion collection separated from the rest of my other collection and having them numeric.

Hi Volume11,

Yeah...I wanted to see a photo to see how El Norte, Chungking Express, Bottle Rocket and Marienbad looks sideways. I figured if I can visualize it/see it for myself...I can justify (to myself) that I want to spend the money for it. Because part of me is like.... "with the money I spend on these cases, I can get myself "Gimme Shelter" or another Criterion title on Blu-ray...hehe.

Will The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button ever get its clear case ? If not, that would ruin any effort to attain uniformity...

Until I know there's a replacement case for this title, I'll keep my Cardboards^^

They look awesome when placed together but I keep my Criterion blus together. It looks like you don't so I'm not sure if it will matter to you. Likewise, if you want just my straight opinion I think all of the plastic cases look more appealing both on the shelf and at retail. If I have time tomorrow Ill take a pic but the clear cases look better to me.

You can always order a extra case and try to fit Curious Case of B.B.'s cover sleeve into the thicker case.

Also, great collection Kndy! You don't have all the Godard releases do you? I think the ones you're missing are "Band of Outsiders", "Alphaville", and "A Woman is a Woman" unless I miss them on your pic. I see the other 7.

Also if you're still collecting, Friends of Eddie Coyle was a great release in 2009.

Alphaville is definitely in there, right after High And Low.

Very impressive collection indeed. Having the Blus mixed in with the DVDs would drive me up the wall, but if it works for you, that's awesome.

Except that B.B. is two discs.

Hehe...only for my Criterions. Truthfully, since I hit 400 for Blu-rays (for those of you who have 600-1000 Blu-ray's - my goodness)...finding a way to keep my Blu-ray's in order is becoming too difficult. So, I decided that I prefer to have my Criterion Blu-rays separated.

I do have all the Criterion Godard's in my collection. Band of Brothers is the only one I don't have the original Criterion since I have it in Rialto Pictures collection but more than likely I will purchase it because of the special features/booklet. But I want more Godard and now wanting to expand to watching his 70's - 90's films.

DVDBeaver has now posted their review/comparison of the "8 1/2" blu-ray.

Like the Woody Allen box sets I've started going through the last two just recently myself, after viewing Whatever Works on blu-ray a month or two ago. Not as familiar with his "newer" stuff as with his older so the third box (chronologically) is mostly unknown territory for me.
