When I saw Czech New Wave I thought that Criterion had announced Marketa Lazarova in the week I imported it from the Czech Republic. Phew.

Yeah, that is really weird. I'm definitely in for Harold and Maude (just have a bargain bin DVD right now), and possibly The Organizer. I love the Harold and Maude cover. It's a little bare for extras too.

I thought we'd see at least one upgrade, and I'm not a big fan of Harold and Maude, although I am happy for those who enjoy it.

The Czech New Wave is pretty cool though, I'm sure I'll be in for that.

I like Harold & Maude okay, but by far the weakest month in a long time. I'm most excited about the Eclipse set... I guess DVD rules this month.

I probably sound totally shallow here, but I really like all of the covers this month.

I think it's a pretty good month, there's more here for me than March had.

Since there was three pearls in the new year's clue does that mean there will be three volumes of the Pearls of the Czech New Wave eclipse?

Eh, looks like nothing for me in April. I'm interested to watch these movies (Harold and Maude in particular), but nothing to buy. Which is good, cause come May and the Criterion sale I'll be a lot of titles that have been slowly piling up.

Criterion is making me buy something every month this year. First time in a long time.

Gorin
World on a Wire
Letter Never Sent
Frampton

Jan-Apr upgrades 2012:

Traffic
La Jetee/Sans Soleil
The Last Temptation of Christ
A Night to Remember
Brief Encounter
Late Spring

Jan-Apr upgrades 2011:

Army of Shadows
Robinson Crusoe on Mars
The Naked Kiss
Shock Corridor
The Double Life of Veronique
Amarcord
Au revoir les enfants
Yi Yi
Le cercle rouge
Sweetie
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

The April releases are great but I hope the lack of upgrades this year is not the start of a trend and they make up for it later. Or perhaps they are moving away from upgrades? I would imagine they don't sell as well as new titles do.

co signed. I'm a little bummed on these releases. The design of Harold & Maude does look amazing though.

Meanwhile Arrow/MOC is putting out great titles like The Tin Drum, Touch of Evil, Repo Man, and The Conformist... They are killing Criterion at the moment.

I think I Was Born, But... and it's remake Good Morning are quite accessible.

Very dull month for April. I'm down for Harold and Maude but I'm gonna take April as a month to heal from the constant abuse on my wallet.

Meh. And that goes on the whole year, for me, though I'm glad others are excited: World on a Wire, Last Temptation of Christ, and maybe Belle de Jour
[Show spoiler](I already have the pretty-good Studio Canal disk)
and - on the outskirts of maybe - the Lean set are my best bets so far.

Though with how folks are talking up the Czech set I might have to read into it. Looks kinda interesting, but I'm certainly not blind-buying it.

On the bright side, it gives me occasion to investigate procurement of the Masters of Cinema and BFI catalogues, and flesh my Studio Canals out. Criterion did close out 2011 mighty fine in my book.
