I found a used copy of Blow Out today for a song at a local store (my favourite store in my city - love supporting them!). Anyway, it didn't come with a booklet. I did a quick google and didn't see anything coming up online, but does anybody know if there's a way I can peruse a digital copy of the booklet?

I should add that I know I can read Kael's essay on Criterion's website. Is there a way I can find a printable copy of the booklet or get the booklet from Criterion on the cheap?

Criterion doesn't supply booklets separately - That's the price of getting a used copy for a song, you don't get the words for it
When I buy used copies (which is very rare now), I prefer to buy them from an entity like secondspin.com which assures the presence of all the packaging material the item originally shipped with.

That's a shame. I'll be scouring for another used copy somewhere from a chain store that I can ask to take the booklet from. Thanks mate!

Ever tried Picaroons? Very good.

Nope. Where can you get it? I hardly ever go into NSLC, maybe twice a year now that I make my own wine, so I wouldn't notice it if I fell over it.

so who else watches their CC blu-rays on an HD projector? i recently purchased one 2 weeks ago and can't stop rewatching all my Criterions because of how stunning they look. It's seriously as good as if you were to own the 35mm reels but better because it's more convenient and costs less. the DVDs aren't the greatest for projection though, so i really hope that at one point all the best ones will be released on BD because this setup is seriously what we should all be doing now that the cost of both projectors and BDs are down. believe me, once you go blu-ray on a projector i don't see how it would even be possible to go back to HDTVs.

Cool, where is Dishonored playing?

I went ahead and placed a pre-order for that TCM set. I just have to own my fav Sternberg.

I've emailed them a couple times about missing booklets, and never received a response either. I heard somewhere that booklets and inserts were $5 each. On the "Contact Us" portion of their site, it says to contact Mulvaney "to report that a DVD booklet has been mauled by a dog or baby." Not sure what the deal is though.

No Une femme mariee or Vengeance is Mine though? I though all of the old titles (except Soul Power) were currently getting reissued ?

And this was Eureka's reply:
They will be later next week. They are going to be a bit behind the others coming into stock.

So hold off on trying to secure that expensive out of stock version!
Thanks heaps for this post

Yeah, I picked up a refurbished Insignia from Best Buy last Black Friday-ish.

I've only used it a couple times but it seems decent enough. In fact, I kind of wish I grabbed another when they were only $35 just to have the spare.

About my watching Pierrot Le Fou as my first Godard. My 'hmm interesting' reaction wasn't intended as a negative reaction at all.

I can't honestly say I followed it very well but I really enjoyed everything that was unfolding on the screen and it just allows me to re-watch it a few more times where I know I'll get more out of it.

I read the essays in the booklet (but haven't viewed the special features yet) so I understand where it sits in Godard's filmography, so I won't let it colour my perceptions of his other works (whether those perceptions be good or bad) when I finally get around to them.

This was my first because A, I live in Australia where there are no Godard's on blu-ray (but some on DVD I'm sure) and B, I bought it as my first criterion because it was going out of print and I wanted to ensure I had a copy. I'm now up to 10 criterion's and a new obsession.

And now for MY final statement on the Lena Dunham controversy... all those people saying it's their responsibility to take Criterion to task for including a title like this in the first place, so that it doesn't start to happen more often... well I have to say that even though 99% of the people on this board are against the film, you are not the only people that buy criterion's. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who DO feel like this is most definitely a worthy entry into the collection. Besides, this can't be compared to films like The Rock since that was a huge commercial films whereas this is a tiny film that 95% of the population wouldn't have ever heard of and still received plenty of good reviews and some awards adoration. More than you can say for Armageddon. I for one look forward to checking the release out when it arrives and all the hate directed at it by this board only spurs that curiosity on even more.

Watched Samurai Rebellion for the first time, and wow, what an incredible film. Truly a movie destined to become one of my all time favorites. I love the huge build up to the excellent climax. I also ordered Sword of Doom a few days ago, which I've seen, so I can't wait to get that one in as well.

Can anyone with BFI's "The Great White Silence" confirm that it's region free? I saw Rkish recommend it on another forum but I know he's region free.

It's made locally in NB, but NSLC started stocking it last year.

Blu-ray.com's review says it is region free, and the thread has info posted by the BFI insider which says it is region free (probably others as well), but I can always plug it into my PS3 to confirm again if you want me to.

Is there like a site where you can check where old films will be screening in your area? I don't think they'll show that in like Fandango or something.

Actually, I bought the Studio Canal edition of Le Mepris on blu-ray in JB HI FI for only $23. I haven't seen it on shelves for ages, but keep your eyes open for it.

It is Region Free, I can confirm that. It's also a great film to have.
