I see MoC also announced Lifeboat and as special features Bon voyage & Aventure malgache are included. I may have to break down and get a region free player. Criterion can make it up to me by getting the recent restorations of the Hitchcock 9 and releasing a boxset. Hello Criterion?

Studio Canal owns five of the nine films, so it's not going to happen.

Studio Canal owns a majority of the films already in the Criterion Library. Matter a fact I do believe StudioCanal have one of the largest film libraries on the planet.

Not really, only about 40 titles have been licensed directly from Studio Canal and some through other companies. If, for some mysterious reason, you didn't know then Studio Canal stopped licensing their titles to Criterion and most of their titles have already gone out of print. The last Studio Canal title that Criterion released was The Small Back Room which came out in August 2008.

There is no mystery to it. I've never seen any concrete info either way. I never guessed StudioCanal refused to license anything to Criterion. Especially since they have the 3rd largest library of films. I only knew that they pulled some licenses for their NA StudioCanal collection. Which by the way is going no where here in Region A .

I thought they owned Breathless and Belle De Jour and that they were still licensing to Criterion. Don't they also own Canal+ which has the rights to Three Colors? I don't really keep up with who has what license and really don't care. I just know BFI will release the Hitchcock 9 on Bluray and thought it would make a excellent Criterion Boxset. Surely if StudioCanal & BFI have no plans to release the movies in Region A anyone can make a good enough proposal and get the rights. Even if only for a limited time.

Posting here to announce really sad news . Greek director, Theo Angelopoulos died a few hours ago in a road accident. I still can't wrap my mind around it. I sincerely wish his family and friends the best.

Has anybody been able to find GODZILLA at a Best Buy today? I went there figuring I might find it considering it's GODZILLA, but no dice. They had TRAFFIC and a handful of other Criterion BDs, but no GODZILLA. Then I went to the Best Buy website, put 'Criterion Collection' in the search field and sorted by release date. For the 24th all that's listed is MOMENT OF TRUTH. GODZILLA doesn't even seem to be on the Best Buy website. That seems strange for a Criterion title that to my mind would sell some copies sitting on a Best Buy shelf.

It's been mentioned in the Godzilla thread that numerous people are not finding it in store. Myself being one of them.

Something told me the other night that I should pre-order from amazon so I did. I'm glad I didn't wait to find out if it would be carried in store. Should be in my hands tomorrow after work!

It would be more likely to see BFI release the Hitchcock 9, as they have been working on the restorations...

While looking through the Criterions on Hulu I found that their are two films called The Lower Depths. One by Jean Renoir and one by Akira Kurosawa. Anyone seen both of these? Which would you say is the better film?

I looked at the Godzilla digipak today at Barnes & Noble, but so far the copy I ordered through their site hasn't shipped. I would have been tempted to pick it up with two other BDs (for the buy 2, get 1 free deal) but they didn't have a copy of Belle de Jour. Oh well, maybe B & N will decide to ship my order sometime.

After Theo Angelopoulos passed away today I started wondering why Criterion hasn't a single one of his films. In fact, I noted that most of his filmography is really hard to find and when you do they come in so-so releases. Would be nice to make a set or release one or two films in his honor. Something similar happened with Sidney Lumet and 12 Angry Men (I know they were working on it way before but ,in a way, it fitted well to recognize him after his death).

I tried that, but it didn't get me anywhere. All the CSR could tell me was that the items have been released, and that when my order ships I will receive an e-mail. They didn't seem to have any more knowledge than what I could read on my order status page.

You should have ordered from amazon. My copy showed up today, just under the wire of my Prime shipping trial offer running out.
