Damn! Where in the world do you have to work with people that a) actually know about The Criterion Collection and b) actually have a Criterion movie as part of a gift exchange? That boggles my mind, to say the least. And... you're in Minnesota!?!?!? Great to hear, though! "A Christmas Tale" is one of my favorite releases this year from any company.

Yeah I was pretty amazed too when I opened my gift. I was partially expecting some sort of movie...but I wasnt expecting a blu ray, let alone a Criterion Blu Ray! (I work at a grocery store by the way.)

I think Marienbad is the only one I'm going to keep the old case for.

Default Very excited :)

Before Christmas the only Criterion blu-rays I owned included: The third man, The man who fell to Eart, Chungking Express and Bottle rocket. Thanks to my film loving friends and family, I ended up with the following for Christmas:
1. A Christmas Tale
2. For All Mankind
3. Kagemusha
4. The Wages of Fear
5. Wings of Desire
6. Howards End
7. Gamorrah
8. In the Real of the Senses
9. Playtime
10. Repulsion

Super excited here lol. I really wanted the 400 blows, but my friends said they couldnt find it anywhere and the seventh seal as well.

What does this mean for Peeping Tom, That Obscure Object of Desire, and Grand Illusion? Will they go OOP ala Third Man, or will they let Criterion keep the rights to their versions since they are just standard def? Any ideas?

Interesting... it's a shame, because there's no telling how the PQ will be, and we already lost RAN to a really bad Studio Canal transfer.

Any thoughts on "The Fantastic Mr. Fox"? Criterion has been a big supporter of Wes Anderson historically, and Fox was a smaller indie film from Fox Searchlight.

A Possibility?

I was thinking the same for the title, cause FOX does let Criterion do their titles, but something tells me even though it wasn't a huge box office hit FOX will try to sell the DVD and BD big on their end... but I would love a Criterion Spec Ed release.

I wish, but Fox is still holding onto "The Darjeeling Limited," as well. So, I'm not too optimistic about "Fantastic Mr. Fox" going to Criterion.

A lot of media reps are out of the office until Monday. You may want to try contacting them again on Jan. 4th.

Well Amazon is already letting you pre-order the BD of Fantastic Mr. Fox, and that page says 20th Century Fox is the distributor and the artwork is decidedly un-Criterion like. Not that Amazon is always right about these things and it can be tough to distinguish what is just temp information and what is locked down, but I agree with you ccfixx and honestly don't think a Criterion release is even close to likely.

I ordered all 9 and have received all of them except for 1 (Bottle Rocket). They said it would be sent as soon as they got it in.

You can email orders@criterion.com to check the status of your order. That's what I did they immediately got back to me.

I sent an email 2 weeks ago and nothing back yet.

So I guess Mulvaney is very YMMV right now
