I once bought a lot of used video games for $10 on eBay and they tried to charge me $75 for brokerage fees! I had to refuse delivery and abandon the package which they then told me they would resell. I hate them so much.
I've only had to deal with UPS when Amazon gave me free surprise express shipping on a few orders before the postal strike, and it was decent. I have heard a ton of bad things about UPS though. However, Amazon managed the brokerage fees, not UPS, and in many cases, refund those fees (in whole, or partial, I once got a credit for 3 cents back from Amazon for some reason).

All of the companies I order stuff from that use courier services manage their own fees, and not the courier. For example, Keurig charges a flat rate of 10 bucks of customs fees per order (which is very, very, very, nice, especially when you put in an order for 250 dollars worth of coffee/filters/other accesories), and gives you free shiping over 45 bucks, and uses Fedex for shipping.

I guess these other online sites have more money to pay for better shipping rates for their International customers.

As much as I like to complain about B&N's shipping speeds, they're still pretty darn cheap (you get what you pay for I guess, I'm just too impatient to wait), and their Customer Service is rather top notch compared to Chapters-Indigo.

eureka (or at least moc) are strong, vocal supporters of a world free of region-encoding. They only add encoding when obligated to do so by the licensor, and they recommend people invest in region-free players. To my knowledge criterion have never stated anything on the topic beyond answer #12 above from their faq.

The cheek!

That's a pretty good point when it's true, though criterion generally has better titles than a lot of the other studios and distributors. But studiocanal and universal. Have shown that turning out crap blu-rays is very achievable.
ftfy.

Thanks Joe. I just checked my account and no credit. I guess ordering from them for years means nothing.... until I hit $500. Oh well, laziness did not pay off on this one...
Still 50% off is great as I can get that extra copy of Alexanderplatz now and give my buddy my 'used' set. Nice as I can piggyback a few on that order for free shipping....

B&N shipping here is very slow but the prices make it worth the time as long as you don't expect everything in less then 5 working days

I would really like to take part in this Criterion sales, still some Eclipse sets I would really like to get. It's too bad it's just not worth it. I will just have to wait till the summer B&N sale, if there is one of course.

I was really impressed with them last year, my 1st year being a member. They went from zero, to being right with Amazon. Amazon lost alot of "share" with me to B&N and also to Best Buy.

I haven't had an issue with them, but I"m a little worried about their packaging going forward since they seem to be 100% using those baggies now. I guess it shouldn't be a issue with a "regular" blu-ray, but it seems to be just asking for a box set or digibok to arrive all smashed up.

I'm getting that one. But shipping is alot for 1 title. I think it would be like $12 after shipping (great on it's own merit, but sort of a waste of that $10 credit). I'm just going to go ahead and get 3 titles - I usually go for about 3 at a time during B&N sales anyway.

Godzilla and Three Outlaw Samurai for sure.

Debating a number of others for my 3rd
-Maybe Last Year at Marienbad (would this still be the crappy digipack packaging?)
-Breathless
-Kes
-Paris, Texas

If you don't have the $10 credit but use the 1/2 off code you can get 3 BD and a replacement case and that would hit $50 and free shipping

Ah yes, I didn't realize that. Thanks for the heads up. I might add another title or two to avoid that as well.
