I just added 3 titles to my wish list. Will they email me the $10 coupon?

I think that was only for the sale, so probably not.

Anyone else happen to catch TCM's "Italian" line-up on Tuesday? I'm still plugging away through my PVRs, but managed to catch Summertime (which is on DVD in the collection), Never on a Sunday, and Two Women. 8 1/2, Amarcod, and Bicycle Thieves were also on, among many others. I really enjoyed Two Women, and have a new-found appreciation for Sophia Loren, as I thought she did a better job in a role such as Cesira, compared to a lot of her English-speaking roles.

It was kind of an impulse buy. I'd been planning on grabbing Godzilla and Belle de jour since they were announced and was looking for something to bump the total over fifty. I was leaning toward Branded to Kill or Tokyo Story but I really liked Kino's Nothing Sacred so Fredric March drew me in and the Three Reasons trailer sealed it.

I've got Bicycle Thieves and Summertime DVRed and watched Two Women last night. I haven't really seen a lot of her stuff but yeah, this was very good. The daughter was really well cast and did a great job too...she was always on that little girl/woman line without ever being cartoonish or cliche.

To my eye, Criterion's Anatomy of a Murder properly represents the original film.

Image quality: 5 stars

Audio quality: 5 stars

And a new Blu-ray that comes Highly Recommended.

Eleanora Brown was fantastic. Also, Sophia made history with her role, as it was the first time anyone won the Best Actress Oscar for a non-English role. Most of Sophia's stuff I've watched has been good (The Millionaress, The Fall of the Roman Empire, Grumpier Old Men, The Pride and the Passion, the uncredited role in Quo Vadis), but it wasn't amazing, like Two Women was. Although those films had amazing directors, the roles just didn't carry the same amount of weight as her role in Two Women did.

Summertime was interesting, but it didn't really appeal to me as much as I thought it would. Watching it alongside Two Women probably coloured my perception of the film as well.

Also, Katherine Hepburn's character is named Jane Hudson in the film, and all I could think about was Bette Davis in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, as she was also Jane Hudson.

Fredric March is fantastic, I've always enjoyed the films he's been in, from The Adventures of Mark Twain to Inherit the Wind.

Probably not. It's a Sony Pictures Classics property.

For the longest time I only really knew him from Seven Days in May (people might quibble about whether it's a great film but it's definitely a damned good movie) and only relatively recently started paying attention when spotting his name in earlier stuff.

It's hard to believe it's the same guy sometimes.

Design for Living is fantastic. But then, I love Lubitsch and I love Noel Coward. It is interesting to see something that so clearly has the skeleton of a Noel Coward story but that sounds like Ben Hecht and moves like Lubitsch.

It also has that pre code enforcement zing to it, that I don't know if we ever got back. One of my favorites for the last year of releases.

No kidding, he's able to adapt into any role with ease. I enjoyed Seven Days in May, it's coming on TCM next week right after Dr. Strangelove as part of their Oscar tribute.

No argument from me Shell!

Pick ANY film from either the MoC boxset or the BFI boxset...

TCM is touring a bunch of classic films right now, and each stop features a special guest, usually someone who was in the movie. If you live in any of these cities you need to go...

I'm just bummed I don't live in PA anymore...North by Northwest on the big screen with Eva Marie Saint in person? Yes please.

I'm jealous that TCM doesn't see fit to cross the boarder with this. I think seeing any of those films on the big screen with one of their stars would be incredible. Elmer Gantry would have been awesome.

Great movie. It easy to see why they were not able to re-release this in theaters in 35'. It is practically swimming in innuendo and sexual references. Plus a movie about a girl who can't decide between two guys and chooses both is even racy by today's standards. If you like old black and white movies, good dialog and humor then its a no brainer. Its a light hearted affair with quite a few good payoffs IMO. Plus Gary Cooper in a unusual role and Miriam Hopkins performance really stands out.

You can't go wrong picking up the Shepitko set for $15 for two very good films.
Agreed on the Larisa Shepitko Dude...easily worth the $15...

Boo. I'm surprised I haven't fried my Hauppague yet with all the recording I do with it. I've often recoreded an entire's day worth of programming on TCM all at once. 60 dollar TV tuner/PVR card FTW.

I was planning on buying it during Criterion's recent sale, but having recently watched my dvd copy of 12 Angry Men I decided to go for the upgrade. Design for Living will most likely be the next Criterion I buy. It's funny, I think I have heard as many people talking about "The Clerk" as about the feature itself.
