Maybe it was shot on video instead of film?

It looks like an Antonioni, ie L'Eclisse or L'Avventura - I've been looking through clips/pictures for each, havent' found it but I really think it's one of those.

If that's indeed true, this makes me brim with excitement. I'm brimming with the possibility that this is one of those films.

Well, they did post a snapshot of L'Eclisse on their Tumblr, but that doesn't mean much.

I can't believe the sleuths have not figured out the clue by now.....

IMO, these clues are interesting, but really take away from the former excitement this day used to bring. Seems like we already know what is going to be released below. I wish they would scale back to only 1 clue and keep it at that. I guess they have to keep the FB sheep happy.

[Show spoiler]The Gold Rush
Being John Malkovich

btw: Fanny and Alexander is one of my favorite movies ever, and I didn't realize until recently that it was actually created as a film FIRST and then Bergman was asked to go back and see if he could fill it out more with the idea of creating a mini-series for tv. So Fanny and Alexander was NOT originally the mini-series that many people think the feature film was derived from.

Don't get me wrong, I would prefer they did another 50% sale on EVERYTHING. But hey, if it's just DVD I would definitely take up that chance to get a few of the titles I keep neglecting.
I know that when B&N does a 50% off sale, it is usually on the entire Criterion Collection, DVD & BD. The other sales they run on EVERYTHING are usually 40% off. These have been popping up more frequently as of late. The most recent one was the week before Christmas.

Did any one get weird super discounts during the Criterion sale? My stuff ended up being much cheaper than i anticipated.

This is not a complaint.

Yeah, I got lucky too. It took the discount from the sale price on the site, not the srp.

That is incorrect. You have it backward. The TV series was finished first, then it was cut down for theatrical. However, the theatrical release came out before it played on Swedish TV.

Same here. I had the items in my cart before the code went live. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or not.

Godzilla, Rushmore & Traffic along w/ a replacement case for TMWFTE for $50.44.

Yup, that is correct. What is interesting is that Bergman had an idea of what he wanted to cut from the TV version to create the theatrical and believed that it would sufficiently reduce the run time. However, when he was finished cutting the "unnecessary" scenes, he wasn't even close and ended up having to cut out some of the meat. He had less "filler" in the TV series than he thought, and I am not surprised - it is a pretty tight 5 hours.

Berlin Alexandersplatz has an extremely low to no chance at all at being upgraded. It simply can't look better than it does on the DVD. It's already been extensively and expensively restored. I don't see anybody doing it again for a blu-ray anytime soon.

Anyways, picked up several blu-rays I have been wanting from the Valentine's Day sale, so I'm happy about that and they already shipped out (managed to get in there before things went on backorder). The good and best thing is I'm 46 points away from getting the $50 gift certificate. Awesome. Shear awesome.

Can I have some help from you veterans here? I've never ordered from Criterion before. I'm about to make an order for backordered items, does your card get charged right away or when the items are ready to ship?

Cheers.

It's funny that most of the cuts in the theatrical are from the last half of the miniseries... which is my favorite half. His preferred version is the 5-hour version anyway, so that's the one to watch regardless.

Sorry...a bit OT...but I'm considering a purchase of "All Quiet on the Western Front" today. I read the review, but wanted to get some feedback here...

Any takers?

About a random 50% everything sale? I don't remember saying there would be one! As a matter of fact, I only comment on what I know my cashier pal at B&N confirms for me.

I've never just speculated and turned it into what I thought was fact.

The July/November ones are almost guaranteed at this point, as are the B2G1 sales in January and June.

But the 40% sales are popping up randomly.
