Pretty much takes you out of the film just waiting for something to pop out. I'm all for the future of films but they are going to have to try something else if they want this 3D stuff to take off.
I wait for the rental now for most of them later in the year or if they are so low in my rental list, the showing on the movie channel.

So now I am debating with myself if I will be getting to two Bergman or will just go for rentals. I don't hate them but neither are they two favorites of mine. Make's me wonder how often would I watch them.

As much as I want Cage/Ghost Rider to be a success this time around, it will most likely flop in the cinemas like the last one, so you won't have to wait that long for a rental.

I'm not a huge Bergman fan so someone else will have to talk you into buying them (though Summer Interlude will be mine).

As others have noted, in the end - assuming Criterion is willing to ship to us at all - we actually pay as much or more on a 50% off sale, as we would ordering from Amazon.com at their regular prices. So any regional disparity is almost a moot point.
It's still cheaper than Amazon.ca.

Also, that's not quite true about Canadian mail, it's actually becoming far less common to have a PO Box. Canada Post is installing a lot of super boxes, which may be in a centralised location, but your mail is still sent based on your street address, and not a PO box. At least that's the case out here.

I get stuff shipped all the time to my parents place (so I know I will get it), who live in a town of 1400 people, and UPS has delivered to them. They're about 45 minutes away from the major city centre, where I actually live. I do believe that the shipping method Criterion offers us is the one where Canada Post takes over for final delivery, such as what happens when Amazon.com ship out via DHL. It's still far from a great deal though.

You know my secret shame. I was hoping to employ reverse psychology on Criterion.

I'm not up on their shipping polices, but this sounds strange. So if you live in Montreal they won't ship to you, but if you live in the wilds of Manitoba all is good?

All those French language films in the collection and Criterion hates French people. Who woulda thought.
It's not Criterion who hates French people, but, P@t, correct me if I'm wrong, it has a lot to do with Quebec laws. If you go on Amazon.ca, there are a lot of films and such that say will not ship to Quebec, so it's not just Criterion.

There are plenty of places outside of Quebec who speak nothing but French, and there are some places in Quebec that speak nothing but English. It's a flawed reason.

If people are that upset about the covers, make your own. There have been plenty of people who have made custom Criterion covers. I think it's a bit silly to avoid a release based on a cover.

I have seen 2 of the Eclipse films and they are a very different take on things to say the least. That set is not a day 1 for me, but a definite buy on sale.
Thanks for the feedback on the Downey films John...their descriptions are certainly interesting. I am glad that I bought The Kid and City Lights from Park Circus. Might be a long wait on them here in the US...

I'm kind of surprised nobody's mentioned this yet...

Two John Cassavetes Films Heading to Blu-ray

I've not seen any of Shadows and only got about thirty-forty minutes into Faces (very serious Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe kind of vibe to what I did get to see) before getting lured away but based on Husbands alone these should be tempting.

Husbands would just about be an autobuy if that ever came down the chain.

Not really Spidey...I have SiriusXM radio and listened to an interview with Nicholas Cage on Opie and Anthony and Cage is a pretty cool guy...much more intelligent and inciteful than I thought he would be.

It doesn't have a Criterion C on it, and we don't know what the covers look like yet, so we can't complain about how ugly they are.

I wanted to go check Underworld in January but 3D only as well. The problem is I never was much of a fan of 3D and with my glasses, not only is it uncomfortable but it make's the image on screen sort of dark and unfocus so paying the extra for 3D when I see unfocus images and dark don't appeal to me at all. Of course the 3D fans just tell me I am wrong I wonder how they manage to see with my eyes?

I enjoy these movies for what they are, just a 90 minutes way of relaxing and have a bit of fun. I don't buy them most of the time since I would probably not want to see them that often. Usually a viewing in theater or a rental is all I need.
What did you think about TinTin Pat? It's still hard for me to accept his transformation into CG from the 2D Herges drawings and two subsequent 2D animation series that came from those Herges "comic strips". I watched the earlier series as a kid on US television and purchased the later series on VCD (a Canadian produced series) and was impressed by that as well.

On a trip a number of years ago to Montreal, there was a TinTin retrospective at that big flea market area (don't remember where) and it was quite interesting. French Canada really loves Herges and TinTin.

Sure we do

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Shadows-Blu-ray/38667/

No need to be concerned on it not being a Criterion release...like the Chaplins...there may be a long wait for any Cassavetes on blu...

And if the Faces cover looks nearly as good, I don't think even Spidey will be disappointed.

Hey Spidey...you buy that region free player yet?

You beat me to a post Octagon! I know Spidey will pick both of these up, if he's secured a region free player. I'm surprised Criterion hasn't released any of his films on blu yet...

BTW BG...I was lucky enough to visit your neck of the woods as an adolescent and loved it! That is when I first learned about"Maritime"...and for my money, you have some of the best seafood in North America.

Plus, they're region locked. Let's grab some torches, form a mob and get those Brits. How dare they region lock their films.

I know you're joking Shell...but I'll bet the Criterion factor in the US has a lot to do with their having to region B lock them...
