Well...I did just order Vengeance Is Mine...I was leaning toward The Insect Woman, but a number of posters recommended Vengeance and this was the last day to get it for £10.99...

Well...only $1 cheaper than when it was first listed...but every dollar counts! I guess our preorders will reflect the discount in the near future...

If there weren't so many releases coming out in the near future that I want from both MoC and Criterion...I would have bought both "Pigs" and "Insect Woman" recently...I'll likely buy either/both from MoC at some point, but Vengeance should be a good starting point on Imamura films...especially at £10.99...

Not quite sure what you mean by this... Spalding basketballs have "Spalding" on them, nothing arbitrary about that.

I think ShellOil meant that Criterion arbitrarily used a "Spalding" basketball, instead of any other company, to sell their point...

Of course it has significance.. its Spalding Grey. But that's not the point I was making in reply to that post.

I understand that, but it STILL COULD'VE been Hoop Dreams even with a Spalding Basketball, because they exist and it would be perfectly natural to use one. It's a popular brand of ball.

I'd be more inclined to think Hoop Dreams with a Spalding basketball. Spalding is the official ball for every major American professional basketball league.

I was watching the show "happy endings" with my wife tonight when one of the characters mentioned she had just bought the criterion collection of clueless! I know it was a joke but was stoked to hear a criterion mention on a mainstream show.

Yep. If it were Hoop Dreams a basketball would be enough. "Spalding" isn't essential. It'd be like hinting Raging Bull by writing "Everlast" on boxing gloves.

With that said, Hoop Dreams would be nice. I haven't seen it since 8th grade and quite enjoyed it.

Since these drawings are made specifically to contain hidden clues, it would have been really strange of them to arbitrarily draw in "Spal...", instead of a plain basketball. So, I disagree that it would be perfectly natural in this case.

And since Spalding is the official basketball for the NBA, NCAA etc, it would also be perfect natural to include that on a BASKETBALL movie.

Not sure why that's hard to understand, but whatever.

It was obvious from the start it wasn't Hoop Dreams, but to say it's arbitrary to use THE licensed basketball as a possible clue for a basketball movie is absurd.

In addition, most of the clues don't have "hidden" meanings. Some just seem that way until they are figured out. There was nothinh hidden in the Kes drawing, or the Antichrist one, etc. So yeah, it COULD've been as simple as a basketball, is all I'm saying.

Which region free player did you decide on?

Congrats and welcome to the club!

My pleasure...I was on the fence for a bit, as I was leaning toward The Insect Woman...but the Imamura fan club here prompted me to go with a good deal on a good film.

I was only going to get Repo Man (after Amazon told me it'd be at least another week before they had stock), but when The Conformist review was less than glowing I decided I could live without that and purchase a second title with MoC instead. With the exchange rate, saving £3-4 is too good to pass up.
No doubt...I figure "Pigs" and "Insect Woman" will either stay at the same price or hopefully drop a bit...

Agreed...I'll just have to wait until I can afford it.
