Use the DHL tracking number as a reference number on Canada Post's stracking system. Canada Post is a little bit more accurate, not by much mind you, than DHL and Amazon.

On the Criterion side of things, I just finished watching "Design for Living" a bit ago and it was absolutely wonderful. The kind of film that I feel I could watch at any time, regardless of mood. It's got a wonderful charm about it. Glad to have it and I highly recommend it.
I hear ya...I'm trying to wait on most of the Criterion titles until the sale. There are just too many great releases coming out on both sides of the Atlantic and by big companies and Independents. I recently purchased "All Quiet..." and I want to concentrate more on MoC and BFI titles...especially if they are discounted.

Hey...ENJOY the SXSW...I'm jelaous

Francois Truffaut said that he saw the film over and over when he was about 13 or 14 years old. That would be right after WW II, so its very likely he grew up on the 81 minute version.

The "restoration" is preceeded by a few words from the "restorers," writing in hindsight about how the film should be viewed, among other things.

An interesting question is: How was Jean Renoir involved in the "restoration?"

It would be interesting to see a restoration of the 81 and 94-minute cuts. The difference between those two might provide some insight into the film's initial reception -- why was it cut?

It's possilbe, too, that a longer version than the premiere was cut (by Renoir) down to 94 minutes under pressure from the producers, before the film premiered at 94 minutes.
It's a film that I might not have been as receptive to, but it's on every film list and Spidey gave it a big thumbs up, so it was worth my checking out. It's quite an interesting film...it is a shame that they didn't include the other versions...

Finally watched "The Phantom Carriage". What a wonderful movie about love, redemption and death. It surpassed all my expectations.

I'm in the same boat on waiting for many Criterions I want to hit a sale before picking them up. I was one of the lucky ones that got "Anatomy..." and "World..." for $17 each, plus the v-day sale led to quite a few.

Lots of other companies releases I'm after now that I am region free. I have a bunch of Arrows I want to pick up, but that price for "Vengeance..." was too good to pass up. Always living in service of the deal. Haha.

And thanks! I got press credentials through the writing gig. Very excited about the festival itself and visiting Austin for the first time. I have a feeling I am gonna fall in love with the city.

My approach to it was to see it: 1) Without audio and without subs; 2) With audio and without subs; 3) With audio and with subs. Seeing it the 2nd time, I became interested in what they were saying, so I proceeded to step 3. That is how I cope with a lot of subtitled films.
interesting approach

Same deal here with Anatomy and World...ya can't beat $17 each and I was able to get both of them with Amamzon Prime, while my wife and I still had the Amazon Mom deal for 2 day shipping. It ran out in late December...I think the last Prime I've got coming is Letter Never Sent...

Good for you Bud! Enjoy the show!

I know Lena Dunham isn't the most popular person on this forum, but I like her, so I picked up a copy of TF signed by Lena:

I can't say I fully enjoyed Tiny Furniture, but it wasn't time wasted. She shows tons of promise, and I look forward to her show Girls.

Check out the special features rkish. There were a couple of key restoration comparisons, in particular demonstrating the extensive cuts to the ending.

La règle du jeu was a film that I had - rather shamefully - missed seeing on multiple occasions throughout my life. So it was indeed a pleasure to finally get to see this seminal work on Criterion Blu-ray. Shot up to one of my all time faves in the collection.

And hey, that Renoir fella was a pretty decent actor too!

After I've seen a subtitled film once or twice , I'll generally watch it without subs from that point on. Reading through a film does distract from the performances and the film itself. I really wish I'd learned to speak more languages.

You know a film has you hooked when you find yourself thinking 'dammit, why didn't I ever learn Mandarin'.

Thanks ROCK! I'm trying to find time to check out the rest of the supplements. I think I may have watched the first one so far.

Yes ...he was a pretty good actor...as was Melville.

Same here! My primary thing for when I got my tax money was to get Prime. I burned out my Mom run long ago. Went back and made all my preorders two day. It's so great having that back.

I'm really hoping to! Everyone's favorite Lena Dunham is going to be there promoting Girls. I'm hoping I can nab an interview with her. The biggest bummer so far is the Saturday after I leave there is a showing of an early Lubitsch with a live orchestra. Erg!

Hey...sorry about the Lubitsch. . But this other opportunity is pretty neat. Good luck...I hope you get that interview.

I might consider paying for Amazon Prime...as my wife would get use out of it as well. There is also the option of video streaming...got to see if it would be as good/better than NetFlix streaming, which I currently have.

Do you have or know of anyone that streams Amazon's VOD?

I have Amazon Prime & use the VOD via my panasonic BD player. Its ok for a free service as it has a few criterion titles on there and more added al the time. I'm not a fan of the Netflix company so I'll stick to the Amazon Prime / VOD. BTW - I order so much more since I got Prime, watch it lol

Eh, I can speed read, so it takes nothing away from the visual or performance aspect of the films. I actually get more from a film by using subs, even films in English.

Yeah, i've started turning subs on most of the english/irish movies i watch since it's easy to miss parts of the dialogue, especially slang. Recent examples being The Guard, London BLVD, Red Riding Trilogy, etc. Kes is another movie where i really had a hard time getting all the dialogue.

I've had that feeling more than once. Over the next few weeks the National Gallery of Art in Washington is having a Bresson retrospective and I plan on seeing most of them. I'll be kicking myself for never taking those years of studying French seriously.

I've taught ESL and one of the favorite jokes we'd throw around is: What do you call someone who speaks three languages? Trilingual. What do you call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual. What do you call someone who speaks one language?
