This will probably change most people mind's regarding Certified Copy and why you should get the Criterion version. They just added the following "supplement":

The rarely seen 1977 Kiarostami film The Report, which deals with similar themes.

I can't even begin to express just how excited I am at the moment .

Wow, excellent news. Sort of like how "Close Up" also contains "The Traveler." Must be a Kiarostami thing

LOL yeah, KES without the subs would've left me clueless after 1 scene.

I know I will be called out as a snob for this, but these 2 films should be switched around as main feature/extra. I am literally going to buy this now (wasn't before) because of this announcement.

It would have made a better "spine" for the Collection but I think it doesn't really matter as long as we get it . I really liked Certified Copy but this is just amazing .

Are you saying Certified Copy is a minor Kiaorstami work?

I'm not a big Altman fan but but I do have to give credit where credit is due.

Elliot Gould is hardly an obvious choice as Marlowe but it worked really well. Even more impressively, Chandler stories are notoriously hard to follow in print let alone to put on film but The Long Goodbye flowed very well.

I wouldn't put this on any wishlists but I'd snap it up in a second.

Never seen it though. Just want more 60s/70s films from Iran released.

India while we are at it too. Ritwik Ghatak.

I'm hoping that Criterion announce more Satyajit Ray soon (preferably The Apu Trilogy). He's probably been the most exciting addition to the collection in years.

He also shows up in a cameo in Orpheus...that was an unexpected surprise.

People who have Prime seem to love it but I will never be able to justify that kind of money for a shipping premium, even if I dropped Netflix for Amazon streaming content. I'm more likely to spend three hours on the site looking for an item to make up the $6.03 needed to qualify for super saver shipping status, or just pay the $3 for shipping and be happy when the item turns up after three days instead of a week.
We have already gone the Amazon Mom route. My wife started by signing up and I attached to her account. In addition to the 3 months or so that they give you, we bought enough stuff that fell under the Amazon Mom promotion to "buy" us an additional 12 months...yeah...we got spoiled very quickly. I have considered going the prime route, but the streaming would have to be at least as good as NetFlix streaming for me to drop them and go the Amazon route.

There are still ways around spending that money DetroitSquirrel...if you buy anything that's $25 or more...and that's been my undoing lately. I just bought in the last 15 minutes, the Ultimate Citizen Kane, as $28.99 is likely the best price you'll ever see this boxset sell for. I've never seen it from beginning to end and have watched it online and in-store for too long. Psyched to finally justify a buy.

Factor in I also found The Godfather in-store at B&N and Apocalypse Now on their website for a ridiculous price...these domestic releases are killing me...but you've got to buy them, when they are discounted like this.

It's Altman. It's Chandler. It's neo-noir. It's from MGM. It's out of print on DVD. Criterion *could* be getting it.

"Poor Rich" indeed...sounds like an oxymoron. Yeah...what can ya do...and I've still got things coming in from the UK...but Kane, GodFather, and Apocalypse were major coups for me this year. The only thing I'm patiently watching is Twilght Zone Season 5...I've got the 4 others and am waiting for the right price on it as well.

Major surprise was the Alfred Hitchcock Presents DVD boxset...Season 5 which took over 2 years to follow the last release of Season 4. I'm on the second disc and there hasn't been a loser yet. I think season 5 might have been the best year so far (it went a 6th season before getting canceled). I hope we don't have to wait another 2 years to get season 6.

I'm curious how many of the regulars around here are interested in collecting all Criterion releases as a collection, or at least all the Criterion Blus as a collection.

Obviously we discuss which movies we like and which are looking forward to, but i was wondering who, if any, sees value i having the whole collection, warts and all.
