I know everyone was (sarcasm) dying to know all of this [perhaps there are the few that simply needed recommendations to which I recommend everything above], but I am truly curious on peoples positions on Yojimbo/Sanjuro...and I would have loved more movies that dealt with Sanjuro and followed more of his escapades.
I'm very fond of Marvin Gardens; between you, me, and David Thomson, I guess there are at least three of us.

Yojimbo I enjoy. Sanjuro too, but I'm a little cooler on it.

I was watching Chungking Express last week, and noticed that in a particular scene, there is a line running down the screen. Is this a defect in the film or the disc?

IIRC, specifically, its the scene
[Show spoiler]in the second story where the guy finds the girl in his apartment and she falls asleep on the couch, but before he falls asleep.

Zatoichi meets Yojimbo was immensely boring for me.
Although I like Mifune a lot, my favorite Kurosawa movie actor is Tatsuya Nakadai. He played an immense range of characters in films from Yojimbo/Sanjuro to High & Low to Kagemusha and Ran. He was also terrific in the Hiroshi Teshigahara / Kobo Abe film The Face of Another.

And Harakiri.

Kwaidan is coming on TCM this week, which stars Nakadai as well.

I always liked Takashi Shimura as a Kurosawa actor as well as Nakadai and Mifune.

Nakadai is my favorite Japanese actor as well. He is deeply moving in the Human Condition, has a powerful presence in Harakiri and is hilarious in Kill!. He seems to have a great range and while I like Mifune a great deal, Nakadai just outclasses him on every level that is important to me.

Trafic I found rather tedious, hard to sit through; Hulot not nearly as much, but still... Playtime and Mon Oncle are my two favorites. Not sure how rewatchable any of them will be. Have yet to see Parade or Jour de Fęte.

I enjoyed it for what it was and will check out the other films in the Czech set. Very strange film thou. And this is coming from someone who absolutely loved Pierrot Le Fou. At 1 hour 13 min its definitely something worth checking out.
If you love films with playful anarchy (Vigo's Zéro de conduite) throughout, this was the point of this film. It's just a surreal, borderline experimental, sarcastic, anarchic fun. That is why I love it. You can mark it up as feminism, I don't. Subversive? Yes.

I would check for you but I have the UK import and I imagine you are talking about the Criterion?

Picked up my first BR Criterion yesterday; The Last Emperor. I just wish it wasn't in an all cardboard case.

What's the word on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou hitting Criterion Blu? It is on Criterion DVD.

He only directed 8 films (one is a short), so I'd say 1 out of 7 is some pretty good love so far. More than a lot of directors.

Wow...66 years old and a heart attack. Did he have a heart condition? He looked the healthiest of the current members.

Very sorry to hear of his passing...

Same here. He seemed like such a genuinely nice person. I'm truly bummed right now.

You explain the film quite perfectly. I'm very interested in getting the Vigo set now. Is it worth getting the bluray or are the differences, pq wise, minimal compared to the DVD?

Get it. One of the absolute best releases in the collection. And you might as well get the blu, as given a choice the blu will always look better + you get lossless sound. L'Atalante and especially Apropos de Nice looked much better than I thought they would, for what it's worth.
