I don't know how I forgot that it was by Wilder... I love that film. Thanks for the reminder... I should re-watch it soon

I originally saw it on DVD Talk, but the information was taken from Criterionforum.org.

Schlossberg also manages films the films owned by the Cassavetes estate (also currently licensed to Criterion) and the Kazan estate (not currently licensed to Criterion) among many others. It looks as though Schlossberg has now also licensed Breaker Morant to Criterion (though it's not part of the Caidin package)

Schlossberg seems to know what he's doing.

But is it major or minor Wilder?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

I would contend that it is more on the major end of his minor works, as opposed, of course, to being on the minor end of his major works.

But that's just me...

I just receive so much comments (negative comments) for my movie wall because I have so few recent movies. I just find recent movies not horrible but most of them just don't seem to offer me much in wanting to see them again, while my older classics I just never get tired of watching. I would rather watch something like Harvey 15 times in a row instead of watching The Dark Knight again.
I actually get that completely. I'm relatively young (23) but with a lot of recent movies, while I do enjoy some of them, with many I just get the feeling that one time's enough. Exceptions, for me, are the movies made by Paul Thomas Anderson or the Coen Brothers. But movies like Drive, which was hyped up quite a bit, I really thought "that's it?"
Now, sometimes you just need to watch a movie a second time, but with movies like that, there's not much to gain a second time, in my opinion.

Oh, and I'm talking primarily mainstream movies here. There's a lot of great stuff released elsewhere.

I was wondering about "mainstream" and what each person feel or think is mainstream? Reason I ask is because I was in the Oscar prediction thread for 2013 and it seem some of the complaint made about a lot of the movies winning is that not enough mainstream movies get nominated or win. That seem for me like a strange thing has I find pretty much everything that was nominated was mainstream with a few exception like maybe Malick who is anything but mainstream. Just last year's winner, The King's Speech is a rather mainstream movie for me, well made and well acted yes but mainstream. Even this year with The Artist I don't see the movie as being that off the stream sort of speak. So what do you consider mainstream?

Seems everytime I refresh, it's a couple of pages shorter.

The only movie that has recently tapped into coolness of Le Samourai is Drive. Le Samourai had this longing for the old 1950s Bogart films, where Drive has a 1980 s vibe. A lot of people try to compare Drive to The Good, the bad and the ugly, which I find incorrect. Le Samourai is Drive's spiritual predecessor.

In regards to your comment about the Kings Speech, I don't think about Mainstream in terms of how well a film is made or even who directed it. My only measure of Mainstream status would be the amount of exposure marketing wise.

For instance, another well acted and original film would be Inception, but it is by far one of the most mainstream movies with the amount of advertising and exposure it received before release.

Shame, on the other hand, is an excellent film but not a lot of people are familiar with it when I bring it up. Same for Martha Marcy May Marlene

I Always thought Mainstream films are the opposite of Art house films isn't it?

I'm not saying anyone here is like this but I cannot stand art house snobs that refuse to admit when a big budget film is good.
