I'd like to get the set as well...but I'm hoping it will drop a bit in price. It's about $60 US right now (Ł34.99)...

I hope the BRD trilogy is released sooner than later. Criterion has to release something big for May. They haven't announced anything big all year imo. The BRD trilogy would be big. HUGE.
IMO, they have released something big every month this year so far.

I'm really liking our eventual chances on this one. Not only is Sony farming out some fairly notable titles but with regard to In a Lonely Place specifically somebody posted (Yami, maybe?) that somebody from Twilight Time said they couldn't get it because it had already been slotted to another distributor.

I could certainly (read: happily) live with it being Kino or Eureka but it would be such a perfect fit and I would really like for it to get the extra attention.

I'd really like to see Altman's Short Cuts, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and anything by Jarmusch.

Depends on your taste/perception of "major" of course, but it would be hard to say that none of Belle de Jour, Godzilla and Traffic were "major". Same goes for Anatomy of a Murder and World on a Wire, The Last Temptation of Christ, A Night to Remember, and a David Lean box set, Late Spring, or the two Bergmans, Being John Malkovich and Certified Copy.

April is the easiest case, but I think you'll have a hard time arguing that there is a month on the 2012 release schedule without a major release using anything other than a pretty silly definition of "major".

I think he is using the word "major" in the sense of a highly anticipated release. Most of these titles are "major" as amazing additions/upgrades but none of them are exactly heavy-hitters (as the most anticipated), in my opinion of course . He is most likely refering to releases like an upgrade of Le Samourai or an anticipated boxset upgrade like the BRD Trilogy. The best release of the year so far is the Eclipse Series 32: Pearls of the Czech New Wave set and also World on a Wire.

yea, that's what I meant. Most anticipated. Your right thou, I wouldn't say World on a Wire, Belle de Jour, or Anatomy of Murder is minor at all. I just meant like releases like Le Samurai, Wild Strawberries, Rashomon, etc...

Well now I'm worried about sending in my White disc last Saturday (March 3). Hopefully I hear back and receive the replacement within two weeks.

I also hope they're still providing the $10 coupons.

My copy of The Last Temptation of Christ has arrived! I've never gotten a release early before. This is one of the few Scorsese films I have never seen. Excited for this.

I don't know how to find licensing information, so does anyone know if its possible for Criterion to release Eyes Without A Face on blu-ray? And what would be the chances of that happening?

They still have the rights to it. I watched it on Hulu not to long ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would love an upgrade but who knows. There hasn't been any hints for it so whether they decide to upgrade it any time soon is kinda up in air.

Maybe it's a metaphor? For how much of Paramount's catalogue the studio will take to Blu...and how much will get swallowed up by Criterion?

This. Those Early Bergmans in May are pretty major, yet people are still complaining. Either Criterion is too mainstream, or too obscure, just because they're not updating certain "heavy hitting" titles quick enough. Of course, my definition of a heavy hitter greatly varies from the rest of this thread.

Hope you enjoy it. Taxi Driver is my overall favorite, but Last Temptation is his most emotionally moving and thoughtful film.

I'd like to know anyone & everyones feelings about the film 'Walkabout' . I just viewed the trailer and it looks intriguing. I know nothing more about it than what I saw there.

Well this probably means there are <10 releases you would consider major. Not having one of those over a 5 month period seems pretty normal. Especially since they did have at least one of those late last year.

There's been talk of Leave Her to Heaven or is it just a really wild guess?
