Like I said, I didn't want this to get into a fight. Some naive poster will probably like that.
Fair enough. You do make some good points.

Default The Third Man

I take it this is an out of print blu-ray since I cannot find it for sale anywhere either online or in stores. Anyone know if this one can still be found for a reasonable price?

Yes, the Blu-ray is out oop but the DVD can be found in the 10th Anniversary Rialto set.

I've read reports its coming back in March and instead of being bi-annual, it may be quarterly.

What about the Jews that worked as "police" in the ghetto? What about Goeth being a man Schindler describes as being good for a laugh and one with great taste in wine, food, and women? What about Schindler's war profiteer buddy who treated his slave labor somewhat benevolently, yet wouldn't join Schindler in purchasing their lives? What about Schindler himself, one of the more ambiguous "heroes" of mainstream film, a war profiteer that used slave labor to make a massive fortune, but who finally relented to his conscience? The film and characters are far more grey than you give it credit for.

Default criterion blu-ray replacement cases

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere ---

For the Criterion blu-ray replacement cases, are they available only for the titles that came in digipaks? My Seventh Seal case cracked and the cover art ripped, so I wanted to know if I could get that replaced as well.

I'd like to get an answer here before I send a question to Criterion. Thanks for any help.

Yes, explain your situation to Mulvaney and you can get a case and cover art for $5 each.

I got 8 1/2 and Gomorrah from Bestbuy yesterday. I think I am going to order rest of the criterion blurays im missing next week(like 10 of them) and buy 2-3 every month as they get released. Its harder to keep up with waiting discounts.
For those who purchased movies from bestbuy.

most stores keep stock of
8 1/2
Gomorrah
Monsoon wedding
Wings of Desire
Che will be availabe in stores when released

you are correct. they are usually at suggested retail price of $34.99. Bestbuy still is a good source for some of us who don't mind paying $10 more but having to see the movie same they as purchase day. They usually don't pay much attention to release dates. Most cases you can find movies at shelfs before release dates. I purchased my 8 1/2 copy yesterday. If you have a reward zone membership they usually mail discount coupons monthly. You can use a 20% off coupon on criterion releases which will bring your cost closer to what it would be on amazon.com. Keep in mind that bestbuy price matches brick and mortar stores like barnes and noble. say barnes and nobles has a sale for criterion blu-rays but the title you want is not available in your local store if bestbuy has it they will match barnes and noble price.

Weird that I never get any coupons. I've been a rewards member for a long time and don't recall getting any coupons!

Yes, that is true... but, as we all know some people are anxious to have certain things immediately and would rather not wait for them to arrive by mail. And with the case of "8 1/2," it would seem that it's been out early at Best Buy for about a week now. Like you, though, I'm just not keen on a $34.95 - $39.95 price tag that one would find on a Criterion title at Best Buy.

Hell, as soon I did the math for the Barnes & Noble B2G1 sale for January's three Criterion releases, I immediately canceled my Amazon order and pre-ordered from Barnes & Noble, instead, saving over $18 for "8 1/2," "Che," and "Paris, Texas." If I have to wait a day or two longer for their shipping... so what, right?

I ended up picking up Che from Best Buy today. I haven't gotten around to watching either part of the film itself, but the technically curious will definitely dig the featurette on the RED cameras used for filming. There's several other interesting looking features here, but I think I'll hold off until I watch the flick on those.

Just curious, but did you pay the $9 shipping to have them ship them all separately, or are you going to wait to receive them all at once?

That's the only reason I don't want to order the three from BN. I don't want to pay $9 in shipping, and I also don't want to wait until the 26th for all three films to be shipped to me.

I got 'em all shipping separately on the week of each movies release with free shipping by using the Visa link that's found online. If you pay with any Visa card, shipping is free no matter the total. My total cost shipped for "8 1/2," "Che," and "Paris, Texas" was $69.32. But, you won't be charged until each movie is shipped.

If you ever go to the DVDTalk forums, you'll easily find the Visa link in there Bargains Thread. There's an on-going post that's kept up-to-date with Barnes & Noble coupons.

I dont blame you or anyone for ordering movies else where I work for Bestbuy therefore I take advantage of the bestbuy employee discount which is %5 over store cost. Each criterion blu-ray cost me $26.80. Still higher than what amazon.com is asking for them but I wanted them right away. I mentioned above about discount coupons and price-match policy because many cases they are even cheaper than the employee discounts and I use them as well. I know my situation being an employee and a customers is different but there are many like me who will leak good information like upcoming bestbuy sales.

Can someone please tell me if the Complete Monterey Pop Festival Blu-Ray includes Jimi Hendrix or is that a separate Criterion?
