Just watched the Letter Never Sent Blu-Ray - visually, it's stunning and the acting is strong. However, it seems to have none-too-subtle elements of socialist propaganda that, although almost necessary for the film to get made, I found slightly overbearing.
Oh, and my guesses: The Gold Rush Floating Clouds Shallow Grave Samurai Trilogy Le Samourai An Autumn Afternoon Last edited by Yami; 03-15-2012 at 08:45 PM. |

I mailed Criterion about my V'day sale order. The ship date kept being pushed back because some of the order was still on backorder. I told them that I was only going to be in America till March 25th (because I'm on holiday there) and I got a reply saying that they were going to rush my order out to me from their office. Haha.
I am really impressed by this and they have also included the replacement disc for WHITE (Three Colors) with the order. Good show chaps. Bring on the announcements. |

There is so much to pick in Criterion that it's still possible not to have seen one movie or another. Of everything they have release over the years I do not know if I saw 60% of it, it may well be way under that.

This has nothing to do with Criterion, but was in a large CD/movie store last night and they had a copy of the Ishtar blu-ray that was recalled before release. However, it was marked $150, lol. Seems weird the studio would go so far as to press discs and then delay the title indefinitely, unless its some sort of rights issue.
It was actually marked higher than The Third Man Criterion they had, it was only $120. ![]() |

This just struck me...
From time to time various people will (quite reasonably, imo) say things to the effect of 'thanks but we're pretty well fixed for Kurusawa on BD for while, maybe they could branch out a bit' but off the top of my head I can't recall too many people saying 'enough with the Melville already' though they're both pretty evenly represented. No big point or anything...just an observation... |
