I've been waiting for the Samurai Trilogy to be released on blu since their first blu-ray. It's a great epic, and I'm glad to see it finally released. Hopefully the print is much better this time. Also in for every other June release except the Soderberg ones! Great month!

The Gold Rush - Not a huge Chaplin fan (nothing against them, mind you) but if nothing else I'll be crossing this one off my AFI list

Shallow Grave - the cover alone sold me. I like some covers, dislike others, I even love some and hate some but I can't remember a cover ever causing this kind of autobuy reaction.

The 39 Steps - eventually. Hitchcock didn't really grab me until Rebecca but this has its appeal

The Samurai Trilogy - I was going to babble about the first time around leaving me kind of cold and rewatching the DVDs or some such nonsense but who am I kidding, I'll buy these at some point

And Everything Is Going Fine - meh
Gray's Anatomy - ditto

So to sum up...a fairly blah line-up and I will be buying at least six of the eight.

Hrrrmmm...

It's been a while since I actually purchase three releases in a month but I am getting The Gold Rush, The 39 Steps and The Samurai Trilogy.

Was there an Eclipse set for this month?

I'm in for Gold Rush and 39 Steps, otherwise its a super weak month. The Spalding Gray titles should've been a 2-pack, or at least $29.99 MSRP each with the scant amount of extras included.

Seems like a good month, lots of movies, good covers. I have one concern though: I haven't seen either, but do "And Everything is Going Fine" and "Gray's Anatomy" deserve separate full price releases, with limited extras on both? Again, I can't complain too much not having seen the movies, but I feel like a The Killing/Killer's Kiss situation might have been nice.

Too bad, I really enjoy the Eclipse sets, give a wide range of style.

I'm guessing the Samurai trilogy is being released like Makioka Sisters and Three Outlaw Samurai?

Well, that June slate is actually pretty good . I am not jumping in excitement but I certainly see me buying some of these titles at some point. Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy is a given for the next B&N sale . The 39 Steps looks good, still, not a huge Hitchcock fan. The Gold Rush will be purchased at some point in the future, pretty good cover art too. Both of Soderbergh's feautres (And Everything is Going Fine and Grey's Anatomy) don't look all that appealing to me. I have never seen those but they really don't look as something I would buy any time soon, also, I think it would have been a wise decision to sell them at the cheaper price point, at least one of them. Overall, I am really happy about the abundance of upgrades (4 titles ) and think it is a good month overall.

Also, something I just noted, The Gold Rush comes with both "cuts" of the film. The 1925 silent one and the 1942 newer version. That is actually something quite amazing, now the release looks all the more tempting!

I think it's one of the better months this year, but the one thing I know is not to completely poo poo Criterion's choices. They will often surprise you.

I was less interested in The Moment Of Truth in January and that one blew me away when I watched it.

I'm super happy about the Samurai and 39 Steps upgrades as I've been waiting for those. I still haven't watched the other Chaplin's, but I'm glad to see The Gold Rush. Shallow Grave is a good choice even if it isn't one of my favorite Boyle's. The Soderbergh's excite me the least, but I've seen some Spalding Gray Monologue and it is interesting.

La Planete Sauvage should be a Criterion title. Such an amazing film.
