Getting Samarai trilogy and 39 steps. Might get Gold Rush, love the cover, but feel like I should get the other two Chaplins first. Also on the fence about Shallow Grave. Saw it years ago.

I've been meaning to ask about that since the release day came and went without a shipping notice.
I'm waiting too. Someone in the deals section mentioned contacting them, and was told that as soon as they get stock in, it will be shipped out (right now, it shows that it is out of stock on their site)

Shallow Grave looks sick and The Gold Rush looks like a great release as well.

I really don't understand where there is no commentary for the Samurai Trilogy? I am sorry but movies like that need context and I really enjoy when they have the commentary tracks. It adds a lot of value in my eyes and makes me much more hesitant about buying them....

I received Letter Never Sent and A Night to Remember from DVDPlanet two days ago. (my computer was at the Apple shop yesterday)

The BD's arrived in perfect shape. So it looks like I will be doing my trading there from now on as long as the prices stay competitive with Amazon.

Great announcements today.

La planete sauvage is the very reason that I purchased my region free player. I saw it in a US theater the year it was released. The MoC blu-ray is just spectacular!

This is one of the best months in some time for Criterion releases IMO. Always liked Boyle, Soderbergh, Chaplin and Hitchcock in the same month. Very nice.

It's more rare for commentaries to be on releases than for releases to not have them.

You won't be disappointed P@t. I envy you, as I'll assume you're fluent in French and get to watch it without the subs. I saw it in a US theater in English. The MoC blu was the first time I got to see it in it's native language...though the English dub voiceover actors did a great job on it. I also owned it on DVD in the 90's and the blu is a significant upgrade.

This evening I watch the second movie of the Eclipse set Silent Ozu, I Was Born But...The story of two boys who realise how their father seem to lack back bone with his boss while they are dealing with their own bully issues. The story is interesting in the sense that it explore something that at one point in our own live's hit us, the moment we understand our father may not be the superhero we always imagine he was and the real world become's part of our lot. The boys seem to think that the only way to be important is to be strong but only to see in the end their father is much stronger then first apperances make's it to be because of his hard work and sacrifices for the family. There was some good performances in the movie, in particular the two young boys Tomio Aoki and Hideo Sugawara who carry much of the movie. There is quite a lot of young children in this movie and it does look like a Ozu style Our Gang movie at certain moment. Once again it's a movie that I would call a dramady. On a side not Ozu sort of remade this movie in 1959 with Good Morning.

Yep no sub for me on French movies I haven't seen it in quite a long time. Radio Canada use to have it on almost every summer when I was growing up but I think the last time I saw it was probably 1979.

I *might* pick up the Gold Rush since it's really the only Chaplin film worth watching. Keaton, Lloyd and even Langdon are all funnier and much more accessible today and Keaton and Lloyd were far superior in terms of comedic genius.

I hope they release Laloux's Gandahar in the near future, too.

As for the the new announcements...

...The 39 Steps and Shallow Grave for me.

I've held off buying the UK BD of The 39 Steps due to the apparent poor transfer, so I'm glad Criterion are releasing this one.
I saw Gandahar on YouTube and wanted to like it, but couldn't get past the character design. I bought and much prefer Les Maitres Du Temps...which ironically, I bought and viewed two days before the death of Moebius.

Park Circus

The Kid is probably my favorite Chaplin film and I have ALL of his films. Gold Rush is going to be a first day for me...the next Kino Keaton shorts are due out next week and I should have them by next Monday (super saver).

I'm still waiting as well octagon...and I ordered it at noon on the day that it went to $19.99...$14.99 with that coup code. Someone wrote their customer service and they intimated being out of stock, but would ship when they restocked. As long as they don't cancel, which isn't looking likely.

If this is any consolation...think of it as a small Eclipse set with an HD transfer and a few supplements...it's still nice having the upgrade...
