All use the digital remastering from the previous Criterion releases but don't have the special features. But there are three films not released on the Criterion Collection label and are only in Essential Arthouse vol. 4 or by themselves:

Gervaise
Le Jour Se Leve
Mayerling

The same with the 10 Years of Rialto Pictures...which include the original remastering of Criterion past releases but in this set "Murderous Maids" was never released on the Criterion Collection.

Eclipse Series are not remastered nor do they come with special features but if you follow a certain director or genre, it's definitely worth purchasing.

Hehe....Actually they have a cool Criterion Facebook app. But they are very strict with their forums. Not everyone is allowed to post unless it's deemed as "worthy"...hehe. Here is a thread of Criterions fans discussing/debating it. Very good resource though for Criterion and MoC releases.

Sheesh.. The people on that forum seem incredibly elitist. This one is amusing. So Blu-Ray is bad because it's too high-tech and classic films are not meant to be watched in the highest possible quality. Got it.

Anyone here feeling like blu-ray is unecessary? I dont understand why we need to see films like gone with the wind and casablanca in high def. I’m sure with some films it enhances the experience but i just hope that they arent planning on makeing a full conversion to blu-ray like they did with dvd from vhs.

I feel like it’s kinda sad that films that were never intended to be in any format like HD are being converted as such. And i really don’t understand how criterion of all people are putting such classics as the 400 blows and 8 1/2 out on blu ray. oh well.

They are just mad that a new tech might force them to re-buy all of their Criterion DVD in BD format maybe?

Criterionform.org is harder for people to post but Auteurs since it's linked to the Criterion official website, and it's not that elitist. You have your film students and professors who like to debate but for the most part, it's pretty easy going. Both sites are very good resources for cinema/auteur fans.

I went ahead and got the "Gimme Shelter" Blu-ray for $20.99 and free shipping. My first time purchasing from that website. I was planning to get more but I see more of a savings with the B&N sale and sometimes with Amazon.

I'm still debating on "Gomorrah" and "Christmas Tale"... Not in my priority list though. The main Criterion I want right now is the upcoming Eclipse Chantal Akerman set, Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy and and Che. And then of course BD titles set for Feb and March.

I just received a used copy of "Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and it didn't come with a slipcover. Is there any way I can ask Criterion to sell me one? Or is there someplace I could find a slipcover? Thanks!

yeah that slipcover is going to be the hardest one to get for sure because it is a Paramount release technically.
Criterion won't have any since it was strictly a first press deal.
(meaning there are no more being made)
I noticed it disappeared very quickly.
I expect the compulsives out there are going to be very upset when they buy it later on and discover it had a sleeve.
your best bet is to scour best buys looking for a copy that still happens to have the sleeve.

Then, you better be posting some damn pictures, Kevtronn. For the love of all that is holy, Kevtronn, tame these wild savages with some photos!!!

And I think you should make the photo of each case lenticular, so that we can tilt our screens left and right to see the difference in packaging.

Very nice photo, Kev. That should tame these savages for now... or, at least, until the next new page.

Can someone tell me if the second part of Che is better than the first? I was sorely disappointed by part one when I saw it on TV. Really unfortunate considering how fascinating I've always found Che and the Cuban Revolution in general. I even found the movie Fidel better than part one of Che and Fidel was not all that great. I'll probably still end up buying this film when the price drops.

Default So in total

The nine replacement disks cost $27.50, right? I'm an accountant by trade but with a serious case of the flu... my math is fuzzy.

MOST PEOPLE say the first part is the best, but I like the 2nd part as much if not better.
