It will have both the 1925 silent version, and the 1942 narration version.

Check the reviews at NetFlix. Apparently the original silent version is on the extras disc and they send the narration version as the default.

Seems backwards but whattayagonnado.

Crazy! It's now at the top of my queue and I'm taking this disc out because the narration is driving me crazy (although it might be quite enjoyable if I were to take a few shots of bourbon!) Thanks for the info!

Well...being a huge Kubrick fan...I am delighted at the news of the Kino release this fall. Not a knock on Criterion...but few companies would have even considered releasing these films...much less the Educational Films set of Keaton shorts.

BRAVO Kino!

Completed the Eclipse set Silent Ozu this evening with Passing Fancy. Event if it's in this Eclipse set that as a subtitle of Three Family Comedies and the movie does have some light elements, it's probably the more mature of the three movies in this set. Can we or should we change for love and can we make someone that we love, love us back in return? Ozu would only make 6 other silent movies in the next three years before making to change to sound in 1936 with The Only Son. Of the remaining silent movies I could recommend 1934 A Story Of Floating Weeds and 1935 A Inn In Tokyo. By moving into sound however Ozu was about to give to the world some of his best masterpieces in the coming decade.

The new Samurai Trilogy cover looks fine to me. I really like it actually . Maybe, the color combination is just appealing to me and also, it looks like a great upgrade from the past cover. This will probably be my June "pick". I will try and pick it up at the next B&N sale to get it cheaper but still no real hurry.

Is it coincidental that Criterion is releasing the Chaplin titles in the order of the titles per the original volume releases? If they're going that route, Limelight will be next.

Admittedly, I've not seen the film, so I don't know if it is entirely inappropriate, however, I think it's exciting and vibrant.
I'll definitely be blind-buying it
Oddly enough, I've been slowly plugging my way through Eiji Yoshikawa's massive novel. I wonder if I'll have it finished by the time I watch the films

It's hated because it's cool to hate on Criterion covers as of late.

I just want the damn pre-order to show up already! Who cares about the cover. Amazon needs to get with the program already!

The Samurai Trilogy cover is fantastic. One of Criterion's best covers in a while.

Damn it! No one told me! Okay, I hate it as well
Yeah, what's with the pre-orders not being available. Fingers crossed for another Anatomy of a Murder/World on a Wire price bungle
Meanwhile, I keep thinking I should jump on some of those $24 titles at Amazon...

So to get back to Ken Russell's The Devils - are there any affordable versions floating around and which (assuming more than one) would be the best to pursue?

Hey Pat...Agreed on Passing Fancy...it's one of the reasons I bought this Eclipse set. Glad you enjoyed the set as much as I did and thanks for enlightening others on the story line(s).

I've never seen "An Inn in Tokyo" and I know it has no US or UK release yet (BFI will get to it soon). How did you see this film and what are your thoughts on it?

Thanks again for your diligence!

I saw it on TFO, it's a French European channel we have here in Montreal. I have it for two reasons. First they sometimes have great documentaries and second for their movies at 9 pm every night. They show a great selection of European and world cinema. At least once a week they have a Japanese movie or Indian movie or something from South America....I DVR a lot of them and get to watch them. Some are retored and others not but it's a great channel for world cinema.
