Anyone here planning to buy the UK version?
Region B locked means no US Studio Canal release. (As with all the others they've released.)

Belle De Jour, Deer Hunter took 2+ years to make it to the U.S. Maybe this one won't take as long, now that catalog releases are flowing a bit more quickly, but on the other hand there still is no Mulholland Drive or The Pianist, to name just a couple of the other B locked Studio Canal titles. (Senso only took a year, but that was another one where Criterion already had the US rights.)

That's a pretty good pre-order price as well. Think I'm going to go reserve my copy now. (Edit: Plus Lifeboat to cut down on the shipping a little bit.)

Been in a dilema in recent months. Both my Eclipse of Ozu were last watched some time ago. I know I was safe with Silent Ozu the chances of any of these three movies being upgraded to Blu-ray were probably from none to zero. However with The Late Ozu set I keep expecting some of these to make it to Blu-ray but in the end only Late Spring is coming and so decided to revisit the five wonderful movies in the Late set.

May be people are watching films instead of moaning about them.

Also a bit off topic but watched The Lavender Hill Gang a bit earlier this afternoon, great release, region free and worth the price from amazon.uk

It's fun watching some of these movies with my wife who know nothing about them, I kept looking at her at the end to see her reaction with the punch and how the movie finish

I still need to pick this one up. I have the equally as good (if not better) Kind Hearts and Coronets, which unfortunately is Region B locked. One of my favourite Ealing comedies.

I'm pretty much in love with Suzuki, especially Branded to Kill. So thankful I got that one. Are Kuroneko and House in the same arena?

I would agree with you on that...a lot of his earlier films are being released by BFI as either supplemental films (on the DVD only disc of the dual) with later films (on both DVD and BD) or in the case of their most recent release...a 2 disc DVD set. But BFI have already released films from the Late Ozu set on blu-ray. I'm disappointed that the next Ozu release (due out June 18), has two of his films from the late 50s "Early Spring" (1956) and Tokyo Twilight (1957) on DVD (it's a two DVD set as well), as I had hoped they would received the blu treatment. The third film on that set is a never before released rare silent film called "Woman of Tokyo", so that makes up for my earlier disappointment.

That would make it a total of 21 or 22 films of his released by BFI so far...leaving 11 or 12 left and BFI is trying to release all of his films by the end of 2012.

Hey...it's my pilgrimage...

I think House is much stranger, more animated, and just more chaotic (in a good way) than Branded to Kill, but it's definitely closer to Branded than Kuroneko. Kuroneko is, on the other hand, much more atmospheric and serious in tone than either of them. Personally I'd recommend all of them, though.

House, I suppose the best word to describe it would be "bizzare". It's an horror movie but that turn so weird that it become's funny but not in the way "it's so bad it's funny" but just because of how weird it look's and feel. Kuroneko is visualy very stunning to watch but as a much more serious tone to it.

All three are significantly different films. If you're looking for a more serious-approached film, then Kuroneko is your best bet. It's a beautiful film.

Hey...it's my pilgrimage...
I am not so surprise by the number of movies release on Blu-ray from Ozu in Europe. He seem to have quite a following there. If you remember me mentioning TFO channel a few days ago? In the last year almost all of his movies have been shown at one point or another, even now this evening they have Bakushu playing, started at 9 pm. His movies seem to be very popular over in Europe or at least more than here.
