This, you won't regret buying either. Kuroneko was a must have it now! blu-ray for me, which is why I was more than willing to pay Amazon Canada 40 bucks for it when B&N shipped me two copies of Dazed and Confused by mistake instead of Dazed and Confused and Kuroneko. At least I was able to trade my second copy of Dazed and Confused for Cul de Sac though. Hausu was also another must have it now! title, as I was really heasitant about watching it, as I thought it would be an unsettling film like 2001, until I decided, what the hell, I'll watch it. As soon as eBates sent me my 10 dollar giftcard from B&N, I ordered it, and have watched it several times. TCM has even shown Hausu on TV as part of TCM underground a few months ago. To me, that validates its inclusion in the Criterion Collection.

I think I may watch Hausu and Kuroneko when I go back to my place tomorrow actually, once I watch the second half of World on a Wire though. I've loved what I've watched so far, but had to stop it because no one else has an appreciation for Fassbinder or German sci-fi from the 1970s. We're currently watching Ned Kelly with Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom on Netflix.

BTW, for non-Criterion titles, if you guys haven't grabbed Tintin, DO SO! I'm now kicking myself for not being able to convince anyone to go see it in theatres with me, and waiting for the BD release. It's a fantastic film.

Great, great movie. Been a fan since I was a little boy of Tintin, still have all the albums my dad got for me in the 60's and 70's. They did a very good job when I was scared they would try to turn it too "american" for my taste. Fun movie and well worth the Blu-ray price.

I wasn't really sure what to expect (and the opening had me cringing a little in an 'oh boy, here we go...two+ hours of Lars' over-the-top disjointed surrealism' sort of way) but it was amazing.

And I never thought I'd say anything even remotely like this but I feel really bad for Kirsten Dunst. It's one thing when the Academy shows poor judgment but to screw somebody out of a nomination because her whackjob boss made some stupid jokes at a press conference nobody was even watching?

Even for them that's bad.

Exactly! I grew up with the Nelvana cartoon that was on TV during the early 1990s, when I was wee lass, and thought the movie was fantastic. Jamie Bell was perfect as Tintin, and I love, love, love Andy Serkis as Captain Haddock.

Out of the 4 movies I got this week, it's been the best so far, even better than The Muppets and World on a Wire (sorry SB! ).

Canada How do you watch World on a Wire?

Okay, I finally received World on a Wire, and ever since this previously-unfamiliar-to-me Fassbinder film was first mentioned in this thread, I've been very anxious to see it. But...

...it's 212 furshlugginer minutes long! 3 1/2 furshlugginer hours! After 2 weeks of teasing me from my Criterion shelf, I still haven't found a viewing block long enough to accommodate it. Since its arrival, it's become the most eagerly anticipated disc in my collection that I can't watch without breaking up...which until now, I've been reluctant to do. I mean, this isn't the TV remake of Day of the Triffids. So...

...if I'm not going to be able to digest all of World on a Wire in a single pass, then what's the next best way to watch it? Is there a natural break I should look for? Something - anything - that will allow me to walk away from it for a day or two?

Seriously folks, this is extremely frustrating...

As Joie sait, it's split in half. I've watched the first half myself, and had to stop it due to the anti-subs crowd at my parents' place, but I plan on watching it from the beginning again tomorrow.

Is it split clearly like that on this disc (i.e. Part I / Part II)?

Yes, there's the option to choose part 1 or part 2, or just watch it all together. The options of which part should be below the 'movie' option on the main menu.

I hope one day the good, the bad and the ugly can get a Criterion release on BD... I am really disappointed with the US Fox BD.

Watch it in 2 nights. You don't think I watch Berlin Alexanderplatz in one day do you? Like others have said, you should be fine, it was made in 2 parts for that very reason.

That's what I did. I loved it, but still..couldn't do it all at once. Watching all of the TV version of Fanny and Alexander at once made me not want to do that again (I liked that as well, but all of it at once was seriously exhausting..even worse because the last couple hours where I had the toughest time paying attention were the best parts of the film).
[Show spoiler]That said, an exception for me is watching all 4 hours of Love Exposure at once. That I've done several times, and not once do I get tired of it

Until you just confirmed that SB, I've never been entirely sure...

But it originated on German TV, so you never know...I mean, they didn't blink twice at 5 hours for Das Boot. So as soon as I hear any reference to 'German TV' I immediately think "pack a lunch"...with "refreshments."

Anyway, Part I of World on a Wire Monday...finally.

Just started my criterion collection with Seven Samurai. I am really excited for the foreign and art films to balance out the other movies I bought today, Watchmen and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
