Darn, there goes my reverse psychology theory, because it seems like the more people talk about certain titles, the less likely Criterion will release them.

I don't even think the Criterion completionists could fork over the dough for a Jaglom eclipse.

A good day. Mailman brought me 12 Angry Men and my replacement disc for White. I suppose there's no reason to hold out hope for a replacement for Blue in the future.

I actually saw it in theaters in 1980. I am not sure but I doubt anyone associated with the movie ever expected that it would become what it did in the French world, was quite the unexpected smash.
Being that we watched it in the seventh grade (I was probably 12) the only thing that any of us talked about afterwards was the "popcorn trick" in the movie theater. Which, now that I think about it, makes me uncomfortable with this animation: He's shaking that bag pretty vigorously.

That was just so totally appropriate for a "children's show" too. Not that I minded or anything.

As long as it's pink. It can't be anything but pink.
Two recommendations:
1) You need to write an episode guide. I mean, how do you remember that level of detail?!?

2) See a therapist. Monkees fans iz dee crazierest people

My understanding is Criterion determined in their mind they are using the correct framing.

Yeah, I've read that too. It's especially bothersome since it is my favorite of the trilogy and among my overall favorite films. I suppose when I want to watch the old "incorrect" framing (or listen to the Insdorf commentary) I still have the Miramax DVD.

It's the main reason I'm now delaying Criterion purchases until there's been enough time for "decisions" like that to bubble to the surface.

Thank you tax return for assisting with this poor financial decision:

I'm not a movie collector so I didn't need it to fill any collection holes or anything like that, but I have wanted to own this movie for many years, and I didn't even have a blu-ray player yet when this went oop, so it's been something I have wanted for a while.

If ever there was something to spend wrecklessly on, this would be the right choice.

Well, it looks like we can pencil in at least one upgrade for July:

I'm definitely excited about this one.

Wow, I am getting really excited as of lately. First all this heavy posting regarding L'Avventura and now the almost-confirmation of Down by Law. Is it possible that we finally get there after a somewhat lacking first half of the year ?

And there's another one to look up! I actually fell in love with Sophie Marceau in Braveheart! My nightmare is being in a position to have to decide whom to date between Sophie Marceau, Audrey Tautou, Juliette Binoche, or Irene Jacob...oh God, and then there's Carey Mulligan.

Maybe I'm imagining it, but I think I saw a tweeted clue about The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
If it does get upgraded, I'm predicting a 5 page sh#t-storm

All they have to do is ask Idziak to confirm it... but they won't. The microphone isn't present in ANY of the other DVDs, laserdiscs, in ANY region that I've seen. I've projected the film and never saw it either. They contend it's because they "zoomed out" and showed more negative, but if that's the casem then why is there so much picture missing from the bottom of the frame? It's because the framing was set too high on the master. It's pretty simple, and they are usually good about these things, but I've lost a lto of respect for them over this issue, because they won't even go to the correct lengths to confirm their mistake.

Heh, actually I doubt that. At this point I think even the people (like say me) who wouldn't exactly be lining up just want it out already.

Hell, I say rip the band-aid off fast with a box set

That's what happened to me with The Third Man...and if I can ever get it for less than $100, I'll snatch it right up.

Man, have I been waiting for this upgrade.

Hopefully, within the next year or so, we'll get Night on Earth, as well.
