Actually, Nesmith just copied a concept (for his show Pop Clips) from Radio With Pictures, which had been airing in New Zealand since 1976. he actually didn't have anything to do with the creation of MTV though, that was Time/Warner after they bought the rights to Pop Clips.

Well, Different Drum was her first big hit. I like Linda, and she does fantastic backing vocals on several Neil Young tracks, including Heart of Gold, Old Man, and Bite the Bullet. Her cover of Young's Love is a Rose is fantastic.

Except for this, from the Malick website "All Things Shining":

I wouldn't say that 'All Things Shining' is an authoritative source but Warner have licensed titles to the BFI recently, so it's not totally out of the ordinary.

I wouldn't mind a whacky C on a Badlands release but I absolutely cringe at the thought of the entire WB catalog being throw into the 'Criterion should (re)do this' conversation.

Unless of the course there really is a shift in thinking at WB and decent chunks of the catalog actually are on the table for licensing. That would make pretty much any amount of inane 'Criterion should try to get GoodFellas' chatter more than worth it.

That wouldn't be too bad considering WB can't get it right with a Goodfellas blu-ray. They'd rather re-package the same crappy release as a digibook.

Authoritative or not, there's no reason the webmaster would need to lie about the response he got from Warner. Either way, Warner is planning on a release, be it through their own label or Criterion.

It also bodes well for the rumor that Rosemary's Baby could join the collection, since it's also Warner. It could very much be like Paramount's decision to release Benjamin Button.

This is the 20th Anniversary and there haven't even been whispers about a BD release. That's almost starting to give me hope.

[Show spoiler]That said, the topic has been floating around in the background and as quiet as the board's been, why not talk about them? They're in the collection and their film's deconstruction of their image is central, so reference to their show, their personae and their other output is relevant as its all part of the same body of work, even if many reasonably think they're second rate. I also think the discussion has been fairly informative and not unreasonably digressive.

I wish some of the times I brought up Bresson or Vanya stirred conversation, but alas... I'd love to talk Beatles as someone else suggested, but they're not in the Collection so I've kept that to the Yellow Submarine and Harrison/Scorsese threads.

That would be a great title to include. The DVD is an Artisan title. Any idea who the rights holder is now or if they're a company open to licensing to Criterion?

Do you know if they are planning on returning for more Wilder? I was disappointed they didn't cover Ace in the Hole. I've only listened to a handful, including a couple of the BBS entries and other earlier episodes. I concur that it is very good listening.

Also, for other podcast fans, Filmspotting has had many good "marathons," some of which are built around directors or film movements. You can find the complete list here; each list item is linked to a page that shows the titles included in the marathon and star ratings. You can also listen to the entire program, but the marathon part is near the end so there's a lot of skipping needed to get to the meat of the discussions.
