By the way: who has Criterions Address and info for exchanges? I received an email from Mulavney but cannot find it. I was going to send in my defective Seventh Seal and Howards End today.

Too bad she's didn't write it now, because Johnny Depp's remaking Dark Shadows. You'd have a a double dose of "liek omg, dreamy bois!" in that paper. And damnit, Micky was a werewolf in The Monstrous Monkee Mash. Argh.

I think it's time for me to go watch World on a Wire, I've had a coffee, and I have 3 hours free.

Is the Seventh Seal defect an isolated problem? I just got through a protracted process of getting replacements. In my case I didn't have to send in the old discs, so I don't have an address to offer.

Both of the ones I listed strangely only skip about 10 minutes toward the last chapters.

In my defense, I was showing it to a friend who is an encyclopedia of sci-fi books, and he wanted to pause periodically to talk about it so my memory is more about the labyrinthine science than specific scenes. It was also part of a long, talky double feature with Jerome Bixby's "The Man from Earth" and I'm beginning to tangle the two.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's worth talking about. I just don't think it's a particularly good film.

And yet here we are voting for its inclusion in the Criterion collection. For a film school student you're being pretty judgmental about a fairly successful $7000 film.

It's a paper-thin veneer. I simply don't buy that a bunch of twenty-something engineers are going to be the ones to crack time travel. It rings completely false to me on a narrative level, doubly so because it's so painfully obvious the filmmaker was just casting himself and his buds.

Primer is the type of film that gets accolades precisely because people can say, "Did you know Primer was made for $7,000? Isn't that amazing?" while immediately forgiving it its obvious shortcomings.

It's also dense enough and has a smart enough head behind it that fans can ignore the lousy filmmaking and storytelling and focus on the big ideas. Like I said, Primer has some great ones. But I still think it's a clumsy, amateurish film at the end of the day.

If you're comparing it to student films with comparable budgets, sure it's top tier. But that's a pretty low bar.

I've heard talk of Days of Heaven and the other 2 mentioned on this page. Can someone give me a heads up as I don't want to order something to have it defective.

Well, initially I had a problem with Days of Heaven until I updated my player. I also had to exchange Kagemusha (with good results).

There's been no acknowledgment that the framing is wrong on Three Colours Blue, however Criterion have admitted there is a fault with the audio on Three Colours White.

I'm really hoping for L'Avventura and La Notte. I'm not much of a "boring European movie" fan but those two movies described modern boredom better than any I've ever seen.

As far as I know, I'm the only one with these issues. Funny enough both skip around the same point (one of the last chapters).

I had something very strange with my "To Catch A Thief" Blu Ray, the sound would cut out in certain points on my player, but not on my PS3. It's so odd how things like that happen, I don't like it. But I prefer having something wrong with my player over my disc (that's weird right?).

You know what, they really resurrect so many films. Look at Harakiri, recently it jumped into IMDBs top 250, which I give little objective credence to but that definitely means increased exposure, word of mouth.

What's your problem with CC?
