I got my massive Criterion order today, my mind was blown by how amazing the Breathless spine is. Amazing!

Reason for asking, I saw someone received the Hollis Frampton set already on CFroum and wanted to pre-order with them in hopes of getting it early.

Oooh, I own 2/3 of those! Well technically 3/4, as I own The Searchers on DVD, and Withnail and I is a UK import BD, not the Criterion DVD. I've been meaning to watch Eyes Without a Face though!

It wasn't of earth-shattering importance but it was an interesting observation.

As for what was on...I recorded Eyes Without a Face recently and I think it was last night. I also noticed Sweet Smell of Success in the program guide recently. That might have also been on last night.
I know, and I tried to engage the conversation, to see what fantastic films I'm now missing due to my lack of TCM watchability. Somehow that makes me the childish one who beats dead horses while being nasty to everyone.

I myself am deeply jealous! I'm still waiting for my order of Letter Never Sent from them, and my copy of The Organizer won't ship until the 23-24th as I ordered it from Amazon. HURRY UP AND WATCH IT AND POST YOUR THOUGHTS ON IT, BUT BE SURE TO USE A SPOILER TAG! I'm actually curious about it because it is a blind buy for me, and I'm not bothered by spoilers.

Hmmm, DD has been doing this weird vaccu-pak thing where they suck the air out of a padded bubble mailer causing it to basically adhere to whatever's inside.

Overall I think it's probably more effective than bouncing around loose in a padded mailer and the adhesion is only a factor if you're worried about the shrinkwrap remaining intact.

The pressure of the vaccuum is a possible downside with non-plastic packaging though. It should be fine but if you're worried about even slight compression you might want to go another way (though off-hand I can't think of another way short of inspecting them instore that doesn't have its own set of downsides).

I might just wait and have it ship still with the Czech box from Amazon. Thanks.

I didn't think you were being nasty. That wasn't directed at you. In fact it wasn't really directed at anybody in particular in a pointed 'hey, you...you're being a dick' sense. I was more going for 'the guy's on topic at least, isn't that what we all say we want? cut him some slack'.

[Show spoiler]You were of course the inspiration for the 60s pop icon part but I think you would have rightly been hurt if I didn't include that in a list repetititve trivialities

Well if there is a vote, I can tell you right now the winner will be Late Spring, since this forum thinks the Hollis Frampton set consists of lemons. Which pretty much compares to someone forming an opinion of the entire NBA by checking out highlights of a bench scrub on youtube.

It seem all good things do come to an end, my little Ozu festival is now completed. I completed the last movie in the Eclipse set Late Ozu, The End Of Summer His next to last movie before his death, it is also one that feel more like a soap opera. The story as more twist and turns and secrets at time than in Days Of Our Lives. I am surprise they included this one in the set and left his final movie out of it. Maybe it just also that it might be my least favorite of his movies.

So now I am done with Ozu (until next week when I receive Late Spring). I will continue with watching my Eclipse sets however. Next will be The First Films Of Akira Kurosawa.

What would be the NBA equivelant of this?

http://www.criterion.com/current/pos...urface-tension

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against rough or experimental work. I'm planning on buying Kino's Early Kubrick set and for the most part I'm basically expecting Stanley Kubrick's home movies and I'm fine with that.

But I can also understand somebody looking at the lemon or this and thinking 'wtf'.

I can understand it really, really well in fact

SpiderBaby, I have no issues at all with their packaging. For single blu-rays, they use a vacuum-pak padded mailer that in my opinion is better than amazon's bubble mailer. Just cut it open on one side and peel apart. I have ordered Kinos and Criterions from them.

I have made orders with more than one blu-ray from them, but every time I have done that, one item is usually delayed and the others have shipped singly, so I have no idea if they use a box for larger orders.

Thanks, if I switch to Deep Discount, I'll just get the Frampton set as I am in no rush for the Czech films and won't cancel my Amazon order for that due to a gift card.

Don't watch Hockey so who is one of the most underrated players in NHL for years that recently got one of the biggest contracts in the league and now is hated upon for no reason other than fans think he isn't worth that much (mostly do to no ESPN media exposure)? That would be it. Actually everyone in the NHL is a Joe Johnson because ESPN could give a s*** less about anything NHL. If you can't sell shoes, you are of no use to ESPN.

Let's backtrack a bit (although you're absolutely right about ESPN and the NHL)...

Your initial point as I read it was that the lemon short was not representative of the Frampton set.

Would you say the Surface Tension clip is representative of the set?

Nostalgia would be my recommendation, with filmmaker Michael Snow.

I have never seen Winter Solstice, but it's reputation makes it a stand out as well. Experimental films isn't for everyone though so what can ya do.

Speaking of which (experimental) anyone else finds this cool other than me (be sure to have the volume up as it is part of the experience):

Only order Criterions from them that have plastic cases. They send them in a flimsy cardboard envelope. Never a box.
My October order of 20 BDS, 2 cases had cracked corners.

Thanks for the info.

Oh and more about Frampton,

Zorns Lemma is a huge recommendation. Can't believe I forgot it.

I was being snarky and joking around, as I was accused of such behaviour yesterday, despite others behaving in the same fashion.

I honestly don't care if people poke fun at me on this forum, unless it's some sexist remark. I think i've been reading too much Jezebel derp as of late, considering that I'm not finding the date rape jokes on Laverne and Shirley funny, and I'm slightly repulsed by them.

I really need to seek out Eyes Without a Face though, maybe Criterion will blow us out of the water, and announce it on the 17th, since they've been shuffling off to Buffalo and delaying the announcements so often these past couple months.
