All this talk of experimental filmmakers, so I checked out some Frampton on YouTube, I was quite impressed by his ideas. Considering the set is normal priced, I'll pick this up.

Has anyone seen the 1967 tele-musical of Jack and the Beanstalk starring Gene Kelly? I used to have a VHS of it as a kid and tracked down a VHS rip of it online. It's also on youtube. I understand in America they used to play it on the Disney channel alot. It's a Hanna-Barbera production with alot of live-action mixed with animation. It's wonderful and brings back such memories.

Also, to make this post more on topic:
For those in Australia, the three colours (AUS spelling) trilogy will be available on blu-ray on the 24th of this month. Wonder if it's the same transfer as the Criterion. I know when Chasing Amy was released here on DVD they used the Criterion disc, even having the same Criterion menu and everything!

And really, I don't even know if I would double-dip if/when Criterion upgrades them. If Husbands ever gets a blu-ray, I would upgrade that, as it's my fav Cassavetes film. It's one of those examples of "I have them. I have seen them alot. Do I really need to spend that much on them again?" things. I haven't even upgraded Solaris yet and that has been out for a year. It's just $$$$$$, and the reason why I side with them releasing new films all the time instead of upgrades (unless they need them like the Antonioni films or the BRD Trilogy, Eisenstein, etc).

I would jump on Husbands. Not only is it really good in its own rights, films from that era just look spectacular on BD. As counterintuitive as it seems, that gritty, grimy, grainy visual style really benefits from the upgrade to HD.

I agree. Just popped into my head again (you were talking about that era), but Criterion needs to release Cockfighter.

I've got all of them on BD except for Eyes Without a Face. And when Criterion upgrades it, count me in.

I put at least part of that down to the Beaver's captures sucking in general.

Interesting, Beaver lists them both as Region B. Hmmmmmm....

They never announce on a Sat or Sun, so it'll either be Friday (13th) or Monday (16th) this month.

And since the past 2 months they had to push the announcements for the next day, would be funny to see them say Friday, but then when the day comes, push them to Monday.

I would need medical attention if Scrabble tiles ever showed up in a newsletter clue.

It's a ridiculous longshot (and the sane part of my brain says rightly so) but every day that passes without an announcement from Paramount or one of their Euro divisions makes it seem just a little less crazy.

That necklace that Maude was wearing in the New Year's clue does look an awful lot like one Ruth Gordon is wearing in Rosemary's Baby (think its the scene where she's giving Mia Farrow the tanis root necklace).

Speaking of announcements, I just popped an Ambien...what better time to predict the future...

Weekend
In a Lonely Place
Husbands
Spartacus
Drunken An...no, Throne of Blood...total hunch
Used Cars (I'm back on the car carrier in the New Year's clue and Sony is farming out Columbia titles pretty freely)

They teased/zoomed that quadrant too before they released the entire clue making every little jot and tittle in that part of the drawing seem even more important.

Even if it's just a fantasy, it's a harmless enough fantasy.

Not to mention that it stars Dexter Reilly and Juror Number 7 of 12 Angry Men. It also has the man who played Paw Chubber in the Hillbilly Honeymoon episode of that show about those four long-hair weirdos that managed to find their way into the Criterion collection, Dub Taylor. He was also Ivan Moss in Bonnie and Clyde and Doc Schultz in Support Your Local gunfighter though.

It's sad that I recognise actors based on old sitcoms.

or it'd be the ultimate swerve:

You'd think with the Studios supposedly hemorrhaging money, and with Blu ray increasing in popularity that the studios would be digging into the vault and releasing sure fire sellers. Heck even a short term deal with Criterion would gauge interest and get them a nice licencing fee.
Get off the pot dammit
