There has been no mention of this week. I'm guessing the announcements will be Monday. Maybe they will start hinting today and tomorrow.

I'm fortunate enough to have access to Netflix for free, but I use it on the desktop I have hooked to the TV via HDMI, as Panasonic only enabled Netflix on the player I have for those who live in the US, and they're being jerks about upgrading the firmware to add Canadian access. They basically told us Canadians who bought the DMP-BD65 that we have to go out and buy the DMP-BD75 or newer. Of course, according to Panasonic, Canada ends at Laval, Quebec, there's nothing further East, but a watery abyss. It's a good little player despite Panasonic being jerks about supporting it. I could just be sentimental because it is my first BD player.

I haven't started up Unblock US yet, as I'm waiting for my cable box thing to get straighten out, so Netflix might work on my BD player with the unblocked US content.

Panasonic technical/customer service is the very reason why I will NEVER buy another Panasonic TV...I had an issue with a 6-12" line that had burnt into the screen that wasn't caused by a static image. And the repair shop I dealt with had figured that out as well and contacted Panasonic to have the display replaced. They refused and said that they didn't cover ANY screen burn-ins, even though it wasn't a user created scenario.

The line has faded a lot, but it's still there (only noticeable if you go looking for it)...but that's not the point...

I'll still buy their BD players (on EBay), as they are good players for the money...

Let's do it, Criterion....

Use that poster for the blu-ray cover art and it's a wrap.

So I've heard. I went with the Panasonic because it had top reviews, and at the time, it was the only BD player within my price range that reviewers were boasting about. I should have waited a few months more, as I would have been able to get the newer model for less than what I paid for this one. Funny how the reviews never say how Panasonic has crap tech support and maybe issues a firmware update once a year, if that, on their older models.

I'm not sure what brand I'll replace the Panasonic with when it dies, I'm hoping that it won't anytime soon. It's my Criterion-capable SA player, so it better not die.

I've had smashing success with LG though, with their TVs, computer DVD/CD/BD drives, and DVD players. The only LG product we've ever had an issue with was the stove. My LG DVD player's a PAL compatible/region free player I paid about 120 for back in 2005. The remote went TU after 2 years, but a universal fixed that. That thing has been moved around so often, and has a large dent in the top near the disc drawer, yet it still plays DVDs like a champ. I just don't use it as much since it's hooked up to a 20" CRT set in the bedroom.

The BFI blu-ray of that is treating me well so far. I was also lucky enough to see the restoration on the big screen, which was wonderful.

I'd love a BD of Mon Oncle, while we're talking Tati...

What's with all the In a Lonely Place love this month? Not that I am complaining--it is a favorite--but it is sort of surprising to see everyone mention it. I might have to switch my pic back from Laura Palmer to a scene with Bogart driving the car...

Hmmm...I must have missed those posts. The only time I noticed it begin discussed was when Twilight Time hinted that it is coming soon...and during a brief discussion of studios. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been listing it every month.

I am thinking it's going to be a good release month but probably nothing that will interest me.

My predictions:

Week End
Le Havre
Lonesome
The Complete Victor Erice
Down By Law
L'Avventura
Grey Gardens

Erice is a long shot but with both The Spirit of the Beehive and El Sur ready for Blu, they could package them together.

I'd like to see 'Eating Raoul' on BD so I can see it again since I owned it last on VHS

While Paris Belongs to Us isn't my ideal Rivette (OUT 1 obviously), I would love to finally see them get the Rivette ball rolling and give it a release now they have it on Hulu.
