My predictions for July:

Down by Law (upgrade; rumored for July)
Grey Gardens (upgrade; was a newsletter hint a while back)
Purple Noon (The Hulu addition seems like a hint that it is coming so I am adding in my predictions until it does)
Le Havre
Eating Raoul
Y Tu Mama Tambien

I think L'Avventura will end up in a Trilogy Box Set in the future. I've read they are trying to find good elements for the films. Week End I strongly think will have a release very, very soon and is my alternate if Purple Noon is not July. The Soft Skin I think will be the Fall with perhaps a Jules et Jim upgrade. Lonesome I think will be sometime soon also, maybe in the Fall. Umberto D. maybe August?

I thought they went after it but Sony shot them down.

I started thinking it might be seriously in play after the Anatomy of a Murder release but the Twilight Time blurb (I want to say Yami posted it here) sort of sealed it for me. Sony certainly isn't going to release it themselves and if they're not licensing it to Twilight Time that doesn't leave a lot of likely suspects.

(Though I certainly wouldn't complain if somebody like Kino snagged it.)

I meant that Twilight Time hinted it was coming soon, but not that it was coming from them...so yeah

I always think Cronenberg did that version for some reason.

It is a real shame to see much of his Mexican input stays just in Mexico because of rights issues. Los Olvidados is probably one of the best titles that should be in the Collection. That film is a crowning masterpiece for Buñuel, everyone should see it. There are lots and lots of other films (In fact, he did 20+ films in Mexico) that must be seen. His Mexican period is hands-down his best, in my opinion.

Being serious for a moment, I wouldn't expect an upgrade for Joan of Arc until after the 2K restoration Gaumont are conducting next year.

Hopefully, Criterion will make it 4D compatible so that the room heats up with the burning

Have they even remotely hinted anything about that??

The Val Lewton Cat '42 and Curse are still owned by Warner, AFAIK (and the W-word now stands for "Archive", if they used to come out on boxset)--
And the Universal Cat '82....oh good lord, please tell me you're not still on those dopey guesses everyone got wrong because they couldn't get the "Panther woman" hint for Island of Lost Souls.
We buried the Pulp Fiction goof when Kiss Me Deadly came out, can we bury THIS one now by mass consent, please?

It had nothing to do with the Island of Lost Souls hint. It's the result of a fun stream of consciousness conversation that started last December with this post and ended with BG's excellent box set idea (though granted I don't think either of us factored Warner into the equation).

Selfish choice that will probably never get even a decent upgrade to the absymal DVD: Charley Varrick

Semi-campy, Semi-cool stylish 80s horror: The Hunger (I could definitely see this one happening someday), The Lair of the White Worm (bonus: Ken Russel), Cat People

God I wish Warner would let stuff go: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe, Rope

If by 'bury THIS one' you mean never mention Cat People again, eh, no, request denied.

The Right stuff truly is THE greatest astronaut movie by a large margin, sorry Apollo 13 (although excellent too). Armageddon and The Astronauts Wife won't do for now? Yeesh

I bought the last DVD version of that film, when it was released a few years ago. Agreed...a great film that still manages to give me a lump in my throat. I was born the year Ike started NASA and have been a follower of all things space since then...which was capped off by watching the first Moon landing on a B&W TV in a campground in the Catskills as an 11 year old.

With all of the other docs and films about the space program that have been released...it's a crime that The Right Stuff has yet to make to move to blu...

Perhaps Criterion will do a twofer: Quills & Henry and June.

I'll go with

The Soft Skin
A Man Escaped
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Porgy & Bess
The Apu Trilogy
Naked Lunch

Most likely way too early, but I'll go with ya. Besides the "We have more Godard coming" comment, Apu Trilogy is the last confirmed title from that interview they did last Fall that hasn't been announced yet.

I'm not even gonna bother trying to predict so here's what I'm hoping for:

L'avventura
Band of Outsiders
The Bad Sleep Well
The BRD Trilogy
Possession (I'm just throwing this in here)
4 months 3 weeks and 2 days

Now if Criterion would just put out what I want I would be happy
