It's funny, because the director specifically stated in a Q&A screening in L.A. probably 3 years ago that Criterion was definitely working on these.

Yeah, I've mined every forum and scavenged every scrap of info I could find on these releases, but the trail ran dry. I've heard some random speculation that we'll see the trilogy this year, but nothing to corroborate it.

It's been speculated the wait may be due to rights expiring on one or all three of the films?

All I know is that I've never wanted to see criterion release a film so badly.

Just saw The Organizer BD:

The Organizer is set in the late 1800's during the early days of Italy's Industrialization. Just from the title you can expect a few things from this film all related to the conditions in the factory, homelife, scenes of the upper class living it up; yes all of those are met, but Monicelli didnt merely make a didactic propaganda piece. The Organizer is wonderfully put together. I expected a much "rougher" film around the edges, but it is quite polished and the location is utilized to the max, this is a fairly large production. The film is very fluid and maybe a bit languid, but never dull. In fact there are quite a few nice laughs just this side of a Fellini film. Through documentary like realism and very nicely composed medium and long shots, the film effectively sets up the town, details the duties inside the factory, and most importantly characterizes this loose community we'll be living with for the next two hours. Much like the Dirty Dozen or The Great Escape, the characters are all distinct, flawed, lively and don't always act or reason the way we think they would have. The film is surprisingly subtle and thoughtfully assembled and especially hasn't lost any of it's relevance.

I wonder how this will affect a Blu-Ray release, and whether or not Criterion would be able to get their hands on it (I know that's a lot of people's hopes):

I hear ya, rkish. Thanks for sharing the memory of Apollo 11. I was alive then, but too young to remember it. My first space program memories are of Apollo 17 (what turned out to be the last moon mission) and the later Apollo-Soyuz linkup.

BTW, the Apollo 18 Saturn V rocket is on display at the Johnson Space Center, not far from where I live. It is laying on its side with each stage separated and visible. It is enormous, a true marvel to behold.

As for the Right Stuff, I traded my DVD to amazon, convinced it would for sure be out on blu-ray soon. That was two years ago.

Damn, I love that film.
There was a rumour ages ago that Warner was working on the blu-ray upgrade and I think it was meant to come out in 2011. Hopefully this will be the year...
Such a great film

This year would be great but next year is the 30th anniversary and Warner does love anniversaries.

The good side of an anniversary release is it could mean deluxe/UCE treatment which could really be cool if they include some decent historical material. There's certainly enough of it out there.

We buried the Pulp Fiction goof when Kiss Me Deadly came out, can we bury THIS one now by mass consent, please?
Wow, you're just a little ball of sunshine aren't you?

Octagon and I forgot Cat People and Curse of the Cat People were Warner. However, half of the people in this forum keep pushing for a Badlands release, which is also Warner, so there. I'm well aware that the Panther Woman was Lotta from Island of Lost Souls. I own the Blu-ray actually. It would be an awesome set, and like some many others on this forum, I'm just throwing out random guesses combined with wishful thinking. We can't even do that anymore?

This forum is getting to be too depressing with everyone getting upset over every little post. We can't crack jokes, we can't talk about non-Criterions, we can't ask about sales, we can't rehash old topics, we can't seem to do anything in here anymore can we? No wonder why it's been so dead in here lately.

If by 'bury THIS one' you mean never mention Cat People again, eh, no, request denied.
This. You're right, we both forgot Warner had it. Again, everyone seems to think Badlands is coming out via Criterion, so there's still a tiny chance. I also won't stop talking about this box set, because I think it's awesome. I'm more partial to the two Warner films than the Universal one, although the Universal one has Malcom McDowell in it.

Fail-Safe would be awesome. I'd love to be able to a Fail-Safe/Dr. Strangelove double feature. The collection needs more Lumet and Fonda. Oh wait, we're rehashing old stuff because the talk of Fail-Safe came about because of 12 Angry Men. Whoops.

I'm eagerly awaiting my shipment. Too bad it's not for another week and a half, as it's an Amazon.ca pre-order. I'm still waiting for Letter Never Sent from DeepDiscount, I hope it doesn't mean it's actually Parcel Never Sent, even though they gave me a confirmation email and charged my Visa. It's been two weeks, and I haven't been able to track it either.

As much as I love Apollo 13...I have to agree...and I was older and more cognizant of the entire Apollo 13 news scenario. I remember following the story on TV and in the newspaper (I was almost 12 at the time). I still get choked up whenever I either see Gene Krantz relate the story and break down himself or see Ed Harris in the film after they see the parachutes open and Mission Control explode in applause. Harris was lucky enough to play both Krantz and Glenn.

There's only 1 request for it.

I think people generally assume it's coming when Criterion decides it's a good time to release it.

What a film Salò is. I feel bad for enjoying it so much because that makes me a sick human (joking). I was trying to dislike it throughout the viewing, but I ended up finding myself enjoying it more and more. I am contemplating adding it to my collection, perhaps I can snag it as a gift from my girlfriend to make myself feel less guilty.

You're welcome Dude! To this day, I still remember watching the Apollo launches on CBS with Walter Cronkite and Wally Schirra...it was nice seeing Lance Henriksen play him in the film...I was a major Millenium fan...

Very cool about Apollo 18...I'm quite jealous of you...I'd love to see that...the closest I've come to that is seeing one of the Gemini capsules at the Smithsonian.

Hey...you can still order the (2) disc DVD from Amazon for $17.99...not a bad compromise, if you can't wait for the blu...

FYI, I don't know if anyone has seen this, but I noticed the other day that Melancholia is now on Netflix streaming. Got a chance to get in about half the other day. Typical interesting Von Trier for anyone that is familiar with his work...

BTW Pat, I have been waiting for City Lights for a year+ now, so you are not alone....
