BTW Pat, I have been waiting for City Lights for a year+ now, so you are not alone....
You should vote in the poll so P@t won't feel like he's the only one voting.

My selections only have a few votes too. We can submit multiple titles and votes though, according to Shell.

What did you pick, if I might ask? I need new things to watch since I cancelled my cable.

I went with Shoot the Piano Player. It's my favorite Truffaut. I think 1 vote is enough for all, but that's my Op.. You have Netflix, right? Have you seen Melancholia yet?

I have a version of Netflix. Melancholia most likely isn't on my version of Netflix, since I have the inferior Canadian version, and haven't started my unblock us account yet. I haven't watched it yet, as I'm not a big Von Trier fan to be honest. I am interested in Shoot the Piano Player though.

I didn't know there was a different version.

Before you know it, Canadians are going to have to buy square discs for your players....

I will say, even though Badlands seems to be the FB favorite, as well as here, it doesn't have a BD release, so that is better than asking for The Fountain..

Not only is it a terrible movie, but lets face it, Hugh Jackman is in it.....

Yeah Canadian Netflix has less content, lower quality streaming due to our internet caps, and no option for physical discs. It's 8 bucks a month, and only came into being a few months ago. We do have some different Canadian content as well that the US doesn't have though. Certified Copy is on the Canadian Netflix actually, I'm not sure if it's on the American one.

I'm not an Aronofsky fan, so I have no interest in The Fountain. I'm also not a huge fan of Jackman either, although I have watched and somewhat enjoyed a few of his films. Australia's a film that I'm embarrassed to say I liked. I'm honestly a bit surprised by the wishlist requests though, since most of those titles aren't ones that the more vocal posters in this thread tend to lean towards. Those titles seem to be a lot lower on that list, or aren't appearing at all.

Edit: Well Letter Never Sent finally showed up today. Too bad it came after my mother was in visiting. Now I have to wait another week for it as I'm not going home this weekend. Oh well, I'll have Laverne and Shirley to watch, although I'd prefer Letter Never Sent. It's much less "let's make fun of date rape and sexual assault." I honestly don't remember L&S being so skeevy like that, and the show is very, very, very dated and not as fun anymore.

Certified Copy has been on the US Netflix for a while now. As for the requests, I have seen many of them requested by posters on this thread, especially, Le Samourai.

Has it been determined whether the announcements will come today or on Monday?

I know that one's big, but on the list, it's lower than The Fountain and Sisters, hence my comment.

Also, good to know US Netflix has Certified Copy, because it means I can watch it once I start the unblock us account up. I started to watch it because of all the hype/kerfluffle surrounding it in this thread, and I never got to finish it for some reason. I keep forgetting to go back to it.

People keep pushing that one on me. I haven't watched it and I know I need to. Black Swan and The Wrestler really didn't appeal to me at all, which is why I keep putting off watching Requiem for a Dream.

I can understand the reasoning for most people, it would be great to have different style of movies and Chaplin is a rather big name. City Lights is just my favorite Chaplin movie and without a doubt a top five favorite of all time for me, so having it on Blu-ray would be incredible.

At this point, since Criterion hasn't tweeted or posted anything on Facebook about the announcements being made today, I would assume that it will happen sometime next week.

no honestly not pushing, but it is nothing like either of those films.
it's darker than Black Swan and it's more emotionally violent than the Wrestler.
i honestly think it's one of the top 3 most disturbing films i have ever seen.

I never said you were pushing, I just commented that everyone around me keeps trying to push it on me. I'll move it up on my priorities list to check out then.

oh, ok.
movies are way too personal to push on people, much like music. doubly so when you really don't know whom you are chatting with all that well.
i was trying to think of a film to compare it to, but can't come up with one.
if you like it cool , if not you're in good company, debate rages on this film.
