if you like it cool , if not you're in good company, debate rages on this film.
I agree. I used to get into arguements with a former co-worker about films. He honestly couldn't understand how anyone could hate Forrest Gump or Inception, yet like the movies I liked, many which, although are quite famous, he had never heard of. He was only a year older than I was too. I didn't hate Inception, but let's just say I wasn't enamoured with it. I do hate Forrest Gump though.

i don't dislike it as a film, i hate it with the intensity of a thousand burning suns because there's no F*uc*ing way it was a better film than Pulp Fiction and as much as i dislike a lot of Travolta's work, he smoke Hanks that year and imo it isn't close.

They tweet about Fists in the Pocket a few minutes ago.

And just like L’avventura, includes a 1080 clip now. Doesn't mean it's going to be announce soon, just means they have them ready.

Wow! I understood the politics of it, yes it is very interesting on that level. I just didnt need the perverse acts of violence in the film.(which is the point)

As far as extreme Criterion titles go, In the Realm of the Senses is much more interesting and the extreme acts depicted in the film actually have a purpose. I don't know if I'll want to see it any time soon though. I blind bought Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence knowing Oshima directed it, fingers crossed

I would of recommended the Eclipse set before this. Doesn't mean you won't like it, just different.

After viewing it once, and having it sit on my shelf for the subsequent years, I tried to sell it to the Canadian used-AV retailer, The Beat Goes On...they won't take it! Apparently it's on their "Do Not Buy" list, despite the high resale value of Criterion titles. Now that's extreme!

What I mean was I was in admiration of the execution of Senses, not exactly the subject matter. Actually I've tried to see Senses four times before, but couldn't make it past the first 5 minutes or so.

I love Bowie and POW movies so....Could you elaborate spoiler free on "different"

I thought the DVD was very valuable a one point?

I believe the original release -- the one with a boy's face on the front -- was long out of print, so it fetched a fair penny. The second release, featuring the cowering girl cover, is still in circulation.

Depending on what you have seen from Oshima, it is a better known film as compared to his others. But I would say (and most would agree) the 60s-early 70s was where he was at his best, and just didn't want for someone to get the wrong impression of him by going into something like this first. Different from his radical filmmaking and themes he put forth in most of his films during his early output is all I was getting at.

Is Criterion announcing today or Monday for their June releases? Haven't seen any info posted by them about it.

The fact that they haven't said a word about the July releases yet today more than likely means it'll be Monday.

Before you know it, Canadians are going to have to buy square discs for your players....

I will say, even though Badlands seems to be the FB favorite, as well as here, it doesn't have a BD release, so that is better than asking for The Fountain..

Not only is it a terrible movie, but lets face it, Hugh Jackman is in it.....
Hugh Jackman is also in The Prestige, your point?
