I might have some today, haven't got the mail yet. Yellow Submarine was well worth the wait, and the screencaps kerfluffle was unfounded.
Surprised to hear about The Sting...in addition to it being a mediocre transfer.

I knew you'd like Yellow Submarine...as wonderful as the transfer is...the audio is even better.

Continuing with my journey through Godard's work, I finished both Contempt and Band of Outsiders.

I've seen Contempt once before, before I was properly introduced to Godard, and it was a tremendous bore. This film is not for those who want to get into Godard. But, once you've acquired a taste for him, it's definitely a necessity. Though not my favorite, I believe this is possibly Godard's most beautiful and depressing film in his catalogue thus far. Bardot is beautiful; the constant score, though somewhat annoying, really adds to the emotion; and the color scheme is so good.

As for Band of Outsiders, I was not too impressed. Of course the dance sequence and the poem scene are both incredible, but I really didn't see much else of interest in the film. Maybe on a repeat viewing it'll jog something. It was not a bad film, but it definitely has me with mixed emotions. I didn't get anything out of it, and almost felt the film slightly pointless, which saddens me considering I was enjoying everything, minus Le Petit Soldat, up till this point.

Up next: A Married Woman and Alphaville

Ha ha....same here with Summer with Monika. There is a strip of the wrapping on the spine that I swear has fused to the case. It is so stuck on there that no amount of fingernail scraping is going to remove it without tearing a gouge into the case itself.

Bingo! I even tried Goo Gone on it and no dice...ironically, the very same thing happened with Twilight Zone Season 5, which I got around the same time.

I hate that. Generally if wrapping is glued on and I can run my finger over it and not have any of it be loose, I just give up on it. They should never glue that crap to the case ever.

"Harold and Maude", "A Night to Remember" and "Seven Samurai".

I haven't opened them yet. I hope to get to them very soon, but there's a lot of competition for what's next in line to go into the bluray player. I suppose that's a good thing!
Welcome to the club! I've been watching Criterion films off and on over the years, they're incredible. I haven't seen Harold and Maude or A Night to Remember, but the original Seven Samurai Criterion DVD release was one of my first Criterions - in a word, "incredible"

I've watched a few recently - Black Narcissus, Carnival of Souls (DVD), Seventh Seal and The Thin Red Line. All of them are fantastic, but by far my favorite is The Thin Red Line. I love most war films, but Malick crafted a near-perfect film with that one. The use of nature intertwined with multiple characters' stories is like nothing I've ever experienced, and the Criterion release blows my previous DVD version out of the water.

I bought quite a few Criterion Blu-rays the first night Deep Discount had their sale:

Black Orpheus, Blow Out, Broadcast News, Carlos, Charade, Cronos, Days of Heaven, Kiss Me Deadly, M, The Red Shoes, Rules of the Game, Seven Samurai, and I'm still waiting on Traffic as it's back-ordered.

Hopefully B&N makes a coupon or two available during their 50% sale, otherwise I'll be kicking myself for not picking up a few others.

Thank you. I was lucky enough to order mine on the first night of the Deep Discount sale also. I think the prices were going up as I was placing my order (literally). I'm anxious to get going. Sooo many classic films to sort through as far as what future purchases might be. But first I want to watch what I have now. (... like I haven't said that before).

I'm positive I saw the price on Chungking Express go up by $5 or so right before I started placing my orders. No complaints though, the prices after the coupons were much lower than I'd seen. I never took part in any of the Barnes & Noble sales so I grabbed the ones I really wanted during the DD sale, even though most were blind-buys. If you consider blind-buying any of the Criterions, be sure to read a few reviews first.

The quality of the Criterion Blu-rays I've seen has been spectacular. The two oldest films I recently watched (Black Narcissus and The Seventh Seal) were simply astounding, particularly Black Narcissus - some of the special features include non-Criterion clips of the film, and they seem so poor that it almost looks like a different movie.

Also, don't be discouraged if you don't like a Criterion, there are plenty of members here who would be happy to take them off your hands Enjoy the ones you've purchased, particularly Seven Samurai - I am certain that one will not disappoint.

I did some research before ordering. Seven Samurai was highly recommended as a "must have" bluray on many people's lists. The others are movies I've seen before many years ago and that I really liked. I'm anxious to revisit them.

If you're near a BJ's, they carry it for $9.99. there's maybe 5 copies at my local store.

Went ahead and ordered 'Anatomy of a Murder' Blu from Amazon. I love classic films and the transfer looks outstanding according to the screenshots. And $20.99 isn't bad for Criterion.

I would have liked it if Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye was on that list.
