I always get myself into trouble when discussing films and actors. Brando sounds like he has marbles in his mouth. I like a lot of his films, but I can't help but think they might be better f someone else had been in them.

I disagree about Brando - I think he's remarkable in OTW.

As for Criterion's variety, the US, France and Japan will always be the backbone of the collection.

It's actually the other way around. The films are better because he is in them.

I received my blu-ray copy of The Samurai Trilogy today, and it appears that Criterion now has a 2-disc custom blu-ray case. It's an overlapping 2-disc case similar to their DVD cases. My top disc was knocking around in the case from coming unhinged, as well.

I take it Black Orpheus doesn't count?

Oh, and co-sign to those asking for more Korean films. Would love to see this.

It counts as much as if Godard made a movie in America and was funded by another Country, yet was still considered an American movie. The film subject isn't my beef, it's the lack of respect to the South American filmmakers.

Would you consider CHE to be anything but an American movie, made by an American filmmaker? This is my reasoning. To say no need for Rocha when we have a French filmmaker that made a movie "about Brazil" already.

Interesting. Could you post a picture of the packaging?

Really? I was thinking they were not releasing enough French.

I think Leon Morin, Priest is an excellent film. Powerful performances from the lead actors(Riva and Belmondo) and elegant direction from Melville.

Is it a lack of respect or a lack of rights?

My copy of Anatomy of a Murder has it as well, or at least I'm 99% sure it has (I haven't opened it but I can tell already that the plastic is stuck just by looking at the spine).

My copies of SG and TGR won't be here until after the 26th (ordered at BN.com along with The 39 Steps) so I'll have to send them separately if they are affected. So here's hoping they are still offering then.

I truly apologize if this is getting on anyone's nerves.

I have finished both Masculin Feminin and Made in U.S.A., and I must say WOW....what a waste of time they both were. Both films were boring, tedious, and full of the usual Godard tropes, but have been done so much before, and better, that these two films just felt like Godard treading over water.

The former film was okay, and had an occasional interesting moment, or two, but the latter...my god, I fell asleep in the middle and had to rewind when I woke up. While I don't mind plotless films, these two felt like they were about absolutely nothing.

What saddens me the most about Made in U.S.A. was the idea of playing with noir tropes seemed like a good idea, but the execution was just not good; as well, this would be the final Godard-Karina film, and what a stinker to end it all on. I probably could have gone through most of Godard's important films in the filmography and not feel like I missed much with these two.
