We can AT LAST cross The Game off the list. Since they have been doing pairs lately I thought we'd get 2 De Sica films. instead we got 2 Carné. Not complaining. Count me in for everything this month except Eating Raoul.

Keeping my fingers cross we get a Polanski pair in October, Rosemary's Baby and The Tenant.

I love how Criterion doesn't put Fincher's name on their covers. Oh well. Finally a release though.

Ususally when Criterion adds DIR names and Actors it is due to licensing agreements. So who knows. But I am fine We know who made it

Interesting announcements. Les visiteurs du soir sounds good, I love the medieval time period.

I will be adding several CC titles from the month of september. (The Game and Eating Raoul for sure)

I'll definitely be getting Les visiteurs du soir and Umberto D. I've never heard of the former before but I'm quite interested in it now

I agree about Zodiac. There is no reason it should be OOP. Paramount should just have Criterion distribute it since they don't give a damn.

Although I was complaining about French films yesterday, put me down for the Carne titles. Eating Raoul looks interesting, as does Umberto D. Not interested in The Game at all. I'm on the shitlist now indefinitely over that in addition to thr Brando comments yesterday.

Not exactly in a hurry to own The Game, though I thought it was a good film, but damn that cover art is awesome! CC can really kill it will the packaging design!

Here we go:

My problem with THE GAME is
[Show spoiler]the ending is bad. It'd be a lot better with a tragic ending. The happy ending makes it a novelty film for me

Both those titles are great, but I think you may have forgotten how funny Udo Kier is in Blood for Dracula.

Who's David Fincher? Is he as good a director as Christopher Nolan?

This would be awesome. I've never owned The Game, so I'll probably pick it up. Its a pretty good movie with some decent perfomances, but pretty predictable to me. Sometimes a movie has so many twists you kind of see them coming from way off.

I do understand your opinion, and wish it was different as well.

I'd be interested to see what alternate ending they are including with the Criterion release. I haven't ever seen an alternate ending to the film before. It is listed in the special features:

Quote:
DIRECTOR-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION:

New, restored digital transfer, supervised by director David Fincher and director of photography Harris Savides, with original theatrical 5.1 surround theatrical soundtrack, in DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray edition
Alternate 5.1 surround mix optimized for home theater viewing, supervised by sound designer Ren Klyce and Fincher, in DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray edition
Audio commentary by Fincher, Savides, actor Michael Douglas, screenwriters John Brancato and Michael Ferris, digital animation supervisor Richard “Dr.” Baily, production designer Jeffrey Beecroft, visual effects supervisor Kevin Haug, and visual effects producer Robyn D’Arcy
An hour’s worth of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and film-to-storyboard comparisons for four of the film’s major set pieces, with commentary
Alternate ending
Trailer and teaser trailer, with commentary
PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by film critic David Sterritt

[Show spoiler]I think it'd give it an ironic twist. Much like Wages of Fear's ending.

Damn it you win but I don't mind
[Show spoiler]the ending of The Game I figure it is a nice ride at least
and I was never bored watching it as many times as I've seen it.

But not to steal the thunder from the new releases .. but I love the Children of Paradise artwork!

I'm in no hurry to pick any of these up, which is a slight relief really, as I'm starting to fall further behind in picking up the Criterion's I want. Way too many great films being released at the moment.
