Agreed. It's definitely not boring.
[Show spoiler]It's just the replay value for me is killed because I'd watch it again knowing the whole thing is a ruse

Idk I think that...
[Show spoiler]by the time the end comes you are already in the mode that "Oh no, the 'game' really has gone horribly wrong", so the happy ending is almost a surprise twist...atleast the first time. Movies with a twist are never the same with multi viewings of course.

[Show spoiler]I think the ending is the film's weakest aspect as well. I do love the sense of abandonment and emptiness Fincher created out of San Francisco. The main reason I want to buy it is for atmosphere.

I am ecstatic. For me, this is a truly great month. The Game finally gets announced, 2 Carne, including one of my favorite films, Children Of Paradise, De Sica and a cult 80s flick with Eating Raoul, which I liked, though didn't love, when I originally saw it.

But not to steal the thunder from the new releases .. but I love the Children of Paradise artwork!
Am I the only one who thinks The Game is an awful film? I feel like it is a pointless exercise with no depth and it just dupes you and ends. I've never understood the admiration for it.

That is Fincher's own preference.

That's funny, I just realized that several of the previous clues were paid off in the same month.

Umberto D. and Children of Paradise!

Not really interested in the others. Kind of hate The Game.

Nope, but let the others have their fun. there's still plenty released by criterion to enjoy.

I'd be interested to see what alternate ending they are including with the Criterion release. I haven't ever seen an alternate ending to the film before. It is listed in the special features:
Don't get too excited. The "alternate ending" for The Game is one of the biggest letdowns ever for me with a special feature considering how long I sought out that OOP Laserdisc on eBay. It's basically an outtake more than a different ending.

That being said, the rest of the special features aren't too shabby. They even had commentary on the teaser and trailer on the LD which is a rarity. I'm also curious to hear both 5.1 mixes. My only real gripe with this Blu-ray is there are no new special features(unless you count the new 5.1 mix) and that the LD cover art was a lot cooler IMO than what they settled on here.

I wouldn't say awful but I'm always a little surprised when I see people raving about it.

That said, I haven't seen it since it came out so who knows, maybe another viewing is in order.

Thanks for the info. That is disappointing.

Already knew it was coming but... Children of Paradise! And not only that, but also a SECOND effin' Carne ! I am completely in for both, Les Visiteurs du Soir and Les Enfants du Paradis . Umberto D is one hell of a welcomed upgrade. Eating Raoul looks good and might give it a rent or watch it online. The Game is a no go for me but I am glad and REALLY happy they are releasing it. Should make people stop complaining about it, guess Zodiac will follow . Also, I know most of you hate to discuss it but the Carne(s) artwork is some of the most beautiful in quite some time. Can't really complain, I am more than happy with this month, especially because that surprise title really tops with a cherry an already magnificent release (Children).

No, I think it's pretty awful. The ending is laughable.
