Eh, I kinda hate those too

The funny part is there's really no reason for me to even care. With a handful of exceptions (The Third Man, Sweet Smell of Success, 12 Angry) it's not like I'm going in and out of these cases every other week.

My favorite de Sica film has to be Shoeshine, if you can get a hold of that. The guy just knows how to touch on the simplest emotions. Umberto D. is a nice touching story and it's a nice progression after seeing The Bicycle Thieves.

Yes! I actually was impacted more by Umberto D (both equally great).

Don't knock The Game. Love that film. It's how I got introduced to Criterions on DVD in the first place. I heard rumors of a DVD release back in the day, so I went investigating, and now here I am today, a proper film snob. I saw it before I became an elitist film watcher. I'm sure that if I had been a snob back then or if it came out today, I probably wouldn't like it either.

Oh I agree with you there. I was just pointing out that sometimes Criterion does improve releases.

A good number of people enjoy the films, that's why. And because Zodiac is OOP. I think it is worse to be given something, only to have it taken away, then to never have something at all.

Agreed...I guess I've just been lucky that I haven't encountered that problem yet.

Another thought on Les Visiteurs du Soir. It is GREAT to see this film getting a proper release by Criterion but, am I the only one who is underwhelmed at the supplements? I don't commonly care all that much for quantity but I feel this release could have been lower priced. Have not seen the documentary included so my opinion might be unjustify. Still, I am going to get this one alongside Les Enfants du Paradis, Lonesome, Rosetta and La Promesse once the second sale hits .

Except it is an exhaustive 2-disc release that is out of print and not available.

As for Umberto D. I finally got a copy of it from the library this week, and I have to say, as much as I love The Bicycle Thieves I think I prefer Umberto D.

Waiting for Spidey to give his opinion.
Surprised they didn't release Hotel du Nord with the other Carne films. Other than that, I'm never really excited for Criterion's announcements anymore anyways, so just moving along.

I guess, then, that people should make their purchases when items are readily available instead of putting them off and waiting for them to be OOP.

Doesn't help those that are new to the format.

This may be the first time since Criterion started blu-ray that I get some discs on the day they're released: Les Enfants du Paradis, Les Visiteurs du Soir and Umberto D.....in the same month!

And the rest ain't half bad.

Gotta jump on that bandwagon sooner. If you're young, ya gotta grow older. If you don't have enough money with one job, ya gotta get two jobs. What can I say? I'm 34 and don't think it's fair that I never got to see the Germs, Dead Boys or Bad Brains (in their prime) live in concert, but what are ya gonna do? That's the way life is sometimes. It isn't fair... even to those that play by the rules.

You can wait until the Criterion Collection gets into those holograms things like that Tupac one and cross you fingers they go the "obscure" route for some Germs Hologram concert. You know the hologram would be better than the real thing, because Criterion will do it.

I see your point, but a better analogy would be if you could no longer buy a copy of "Bad Brains" the album because you didn't know about them when it came out. There is a difference between recorded media and a live performance. I bet not one of the Beatles fans on this forum complained when all their albums got remastered a few years back. Was anyone complaining that it was a waste because the originals were available, even if you had to pay a ton of money to get a first printing?

Well, I'd just download it, then.

In this scenario, the serious answer is that I could still buy the albums if I really wanted them. They're still around just like copies of Zodiac. However, it's only worth how much people are willing to spend on it. If someone really wants something, though, there's a way to get it. I'll sell my copy for $10,000 to the first bidder.

Oh, I know a few Beatles fans that don't post on blu-ray forums and weren't happy with those remasters... mostly vinyl aficionados, but there was still some complaining.

Can't really blame people for not knowing something was going to go OOP. There are plenty of other CC titles to choose from if you don't like Fincher.
