So I ended up ordering some titles online. I was able to get the $5 off $50 coupon to work (W8X8Y4N), and used one of my $25 gift certificates.

$42.02 for three Criterions. Either way, not bad. As far as the other three titles I want I'll take my chances and wait until July. Hopefully they'll have the Criterion sale. They should know a week before and the "Buy 2, Get 1" free deal ends mid July so worst case I'll buy the other three during that sale if I get confirmation of no 50% Criterion sale.

No worries. It just gets annoying but...

Apparently BN employees are telling people there is no sale this year. They will being doing an arthouse independent sale beginning July 10.

Edit: My buddy who has a BN contact now says the sale is on. So both rumors cancel each other out. It's probably still on. Second Tuesday of the month or so.

And yeah I've used that eBay seller before, just couldn't remember the name. I know I should have gotten a better value, but for now I only ordered one because money is kind of tight.

Thanks.
Yeowch. That is high, but still cheaper than if you were Canadian.

I just finished People on Sunday. What an extraordinary little film. I was surprised how much I liked it. This was my first silent (other than Chaplin) that I have bought on blu. I was not disappointed.

I saw I Wish at a theater in New York, but that was over a month ago and it doesn't appear to be playing in the region any more. It's a fine film, indeed.

I think Le Cercle Rouge is great. I have never seen Leon Morin,Priest (its on my wishlist). It's a bit more fast paced than Army of Shadows but still a bit slow at times. I really liked it though, and if you enjoy a well made heist film I'm sure you'll like it. I couldn't say which I like better thou. Le Cercle Rouge does have a lot more replay value and is a safer blind buy imo.

I think we need to stop talking about the sale as its getting people worked up for no reason,
[Show spoiler]also people are beginning to think they're entitled to cheap BDs as if they're an essential need.

You're right. In the grand scheme of things I should stop going so crazy with trying to get the best price.

I quite enjoyed Le cercle rouge, solid film, though I still prefer Army of Shadows. I have yet to buy Leon Morin, Priest.

I'm not only missing a hand-full of the available pre-orders..... I'm about 3-4 short on the "new releases"

Way behind.... way behind.... The one time I actually stick to my laurels and leave something un-purchased for the "sale" and it may not happen.

Oh well... the "B2G1" made 3 films (on sale) come out to $61 or so shipped.

$20 each is a deal in my eyes.

I own Army of Shadows already, and I watched Leon Morin this past weekend. Leon Morin is just edging out AoS a wee bit as the better film, and I'm thinking about grabbing it ASAP. I highly recommend it, and I do enjoy classic heist films.

People on Sunday is one of those Criterion titles I have yet to watch. I'm glad you liked it.

It seems the value of this Buy 2 Get the 3rd Free sale really depends on the initial price B&N is charging for a given title. The prices vary even among titles with the same number discs. I just placed three single-disc titles into my shopping bag, just to compare prices:

-The Last Metro $39.99
-Shallow Grave $27.990
-Leon Morin, Priest $35.99
-Total (before tax) $75.98
-Cost per title (before tax) $25.33

Not horrible, but I've seen prices on single-disc Criterion titles dip below $25 on Amazon without any big promotions. However, it is possible, it seems, to use coupons for additional savings.

Also, don't forget B&N participates with Ebates.com (http://www.ebates.com/stores/barnesa...ggest&store=96), so you can receive a small rebate on top of these other discounts.

Additionally, Barnes and Noble generally has two yearly 50% sales on Criterions. The next is expected in July (likely after their current promotion expires on or around July 10th) but there's always an air of uncertainty until it's formally announced.

Anyway, the bottom line - if you're willing to be patient and keep an eye out you can reasonably expect to pick up a single-disc title like Shallow Grave in the twentyish range.
Thanks for the info,,i know the best thing to be is wait ,,,but im weak,so ill probably end up getting it real soon,,

yeah...

39 Steps @ $26.59 (becomes "Free" )
The Gold Rush @ $27.99
Shallow Grave @ $27.99

You've gotta get the "better priced" titles, because once you throw a $39.99 title into the mix, you really negate the savings vs. Amazon, Criterion directly, etc.

Both, Army of Shadows and Leon Morin, Priest are among my favorite titles in the Collection. I have yet to see Le Cercle Rouge but that is one I should be getting this year.

It seems we are not getting B&N sale this year from what has been rumored. We are just two weeks from July and still no confirmation. Not a big problem. Sure, it was fun to actually pick many titles at once (The experience was a good part of what made the B&N sale great, at least for me ), but the Amazon prices aren't really crazy high, most of the time you can get the titles you want at the 19.99 range.

Not for Canadians, Amazon.com has really jacked up shipping and import taxes. B&N is actually somewhat cheaper with the current sale, although it depends on the titles, and if you don't mind waiting a month for stuff.

I've noticed ebates has really lowered the B&N rebates too, only 2% now. Oh well.

See, I like sales and all, but if I have to pay more for films, I don't mind.

I am in a similar position. I live in Mexico so ordering from Amazon isn't exactly the cheapest option but I don't really mind paying a few extra dollars for something I like or I want. I still haven't gotten Belle de Jour which I ordered around month and a half ago. It takes around two months for each order to arrive .

Fun, I'm still waiting for Shallow Grave, but it won't take 2 months. Amazon.com really seems to be trying to get Canadians to buy from the Canadian site more often than not now.
