Oh! I know how it could be worse.

We could start asking Criterion to release on Blu-ray titles they've already released on Blu-ray. And no, OOP titles won't count.

Forget The Fountain. Forget Fantastic Mr. Fox. Forget all the Arrow/BFI/MoC stuff.

I want them to release Anatomy of a Murder and Pale Flower.

Again.

New cover art? Or does it have to be the same? What about the spine number?

This is sick...my immediate reaction to the spine number thing was 'you know, that's actually a pretty good question'.

I've already seen that sort of comments on the news page at Blu-ray.com...

I have the British Blu-ray of The Third Man and the picture is fine; a bit rough around the edges, but I'm happy with it. Why is Criterion's so much better? They can't have access to better technology than other studios. Is it just a question of time and care?

Criterion don't de-grain their films into oblivion

I am a big Lynch fan, but I would prefer to see more movies by Kenji Mizoguchi get the criterion treatment. BFI is ahead of the game in this area. They have been releasing awesome region-2 looked titles. I have to get a region free blu ray player.

By the way, The Samurai trilogy blu ray is fantastic. I remember watching these films 10 years ago on the subpar DVDs. The PQ is great and clear on the blu ray. Anyone who is samurai film or Toshiro Mifune fan should get this blu ray.

Again but with more extras, right? That's a good reason.

on July 8th Criterioncast sent out this tweet--
8 Jul CriterionCast.com ‏@CriterionCast
Don't forget: The Barnes & Noble 50% Off Criterion Collection sale kicks off tomorrow!

I'm not seeing a traditional 50% off sale on B&N.com.
What's going on?
anyone know?

That's what I'm trying to understand--when it starts.
the tweet said it was supposed to already be going, as today is the 9th.
so they were wrong?
btw: Eraserhead appears to be headed to Criterion blu-ray.
It just appeared on the Criterion Hulu.

ok thanks.
I think they corrected themselves by saying later they meant today at 12:00 at night.
so really the 10th is what they meant.

That would be fantastic news, but I will believe it when I see it.

I don't know if I am glad I did not pick up the UK release. With Criterion's track record with Lynch, I remain cynical. I will say, if they can get him to sign off on it, that little blue sticker with his signature would be a collectors item for some....

I find Bunuel's films far more superior than Lynch's. Although Eraserhead is good, Un Chien Andalou is 13 mins of surreal perfection. I think Eraserhead suffers greatly by the lack of better editing.
