Hmm I guess so, I think I'm just more hesitant because of the type of the movies they are: replay value, minimal despite all being great

Most of my Criterions have great replay value, including 2 of the ones you want. Can't comment on samurai trilogy yet, as B&N haven't even shipped it yet. Kuroneko was one I personally wanted so bad that after B&N screwed up on the last sale by srnding me two copues of dazed and confused, I bought it full price from Smazon Canada. It's that good for me at least.

Last weekend, I noticed two films playing in the wee hours of the morning on TCM. I had never heard of either, but the titles seemed interesting enough to me that I set the DVR to record them while I slept. One was called "Possession" from 1981 and the other was "Repulsion" from 1965. I skimmed through both of them the next morning and was pretty much riveted to what I was seeing. They both seemed a little disturbing (to say the least ... hehe). I still haven't had the time to watch either of them all the way through at normal speed. I have a strong feeling that the people in this forum are familiar with both of them ... especially "Repulsion" since it's a Criterion release (which I didn't realize until doing some research after seeing it on TCM). I'm actually considering buying "Repulsion" during the B&N 50% off sale, but maybe I need to watch the entire movie first to make sure I really want it and am not just being impulsive ... which is so easy to do with movies, ay?

Just wanted to tell you guys that I went through buying Kiss Me Deadly from Amazon's Warehouse Deals and it showed up today in a black DVD case with the disc fumbling around inside. The artwork was ripped about an inch on the spine and the booklet was in less than stellar condition. It also had 2 stickers on the back that I'd bet would need some goo gone. It's going right back of course. Just thought I'd let some of you know to be careful when trying to save a buck or two by buying CCs from Warehouse Deals. It was described as Like New/Very Good and was $21. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me.

It's a legitimate concern (given its price point, even when they are on sale), but if I didn't purchase some of these, there may be no other way for me to see them. I live and work in a college town, but I know of only one art house in my area, I don't have a subscription to IFC (Independent Film Channel), and generally speaking, they're not available for rental (Blockbuster may carry a few, but I think most locations, if not all, have either closed in my area or past a reasonable driving distance).

I just ordered The Gold Rush, The Great Dictator & Hunger. Now I've complete my Chaplin collection (for now) and my Steve Mcqueen Collection (the other title being Shame)

We try but sometimes we lapse

I should try to restart posting my Criterion reviews, back in March in April that would sometimes get people going. I have quite a bunch of new Eclipse sets coming, pretty soon I will start my reviews once more

I know, I know..going off topic I do that a lot but the Nolan bashing is actually going on pretty hard in The Dark Knight Rises and Batman reboot threads. I never tought I would live long enough to see some of these fans turn on him

Eh, who the hell else are they going to tell?

Even when I don't slightly care what people have bought - which of course is most of the time - I can still relate to their enthusiasm.

And besides, if I couldn't scroll past boring, pointless crap I would have abandoned the information superhighway before it was even called that.

Instead of posting my haul — which was only 2 eclipse sets — I thought I'd post this instead. I sold off most of my laserdiscs, but found these 5 still in a box in the closet. Ah, the days when REPULSION cost $99.99.

I know, that is why I sometime chuckle at some of the prices complaint I read in this forum "$19.99 for a release, are they crazy? Call me when it's under $10 and not before"

Use to buy movies at $100+ on Laserdisc 20 years ago and was so darn happy to see them in OAR instead of the stupid cut and edited VHS tapes

I was one of those people who would justify spending hard earned cash on Criterion Laserdiscs.

Funny you mention that. I actually stayed up and watched Possession (no DVR). Unfortunately I found it pretty terrible. I was going to force myself to the finish line, but with about 30 minutes left I just couldn't take anymore and went to sleep. Of course I might not be pre-disposed to like this kind of film, they're hit or miss with me. I couldn't even enjoy it in the guise of "so bad it's good". In a way it reminded me of Naked Lunch, which is perhaps my least favorite in the Criterion Collection ever. Like I said it just must not be my thing, I'm sure many others will disagree with me.

Repulsion is highly recommended though. It's a great blu-ray too...

I gave up worrying about replay value after comparing the price for a Criterion Bluray to the cost of me and the wife going to the local movie theater.

[Show spoiler]Criterion wins hands down.

It's nice to see people finally realizing how overrated Nolan is, and how Batman is pretty silly no matter who makes it.
