The Blob seems more like a mid-winter release ala Godzilla and I'm even starting to wonder about RB for October. But let's say it is...

Rosemary's Baby
The Tenant (with Knife in the Water as a supplement)
Grey Gardens
Drunken Angel (I haven't beaten that drum in a while)
Week End (or Wild Strawberries, not sure why)

If Polanski doesn't materialize I'll say Husbands and/or The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp.

Or Sabrina and Funny Face. (actually make that Sabrina and Ace in the Hole or Funny Face)

I think probably covers pretty much everything but what they'll actually announce.

You should check out some Juan Carlos Rulfo, Lorenzo Hagerman and Everardo Gonzalez, all of them great documentary directors.
I dont know much about Mexican film (even thou I should). I only know the mainstream stuff like Alejandro Inarritu. I also really like Gael Garcia Bernal, almost every movie I have seen that he's in was great. What do you think of his films like Rudo y Cursi, Even in the Rain, Amorres es Perros etc.

Criterion has been releasing pairs each month since May; I'm thinking we will get 2 Polanski's in October, Rosemary's Baby and a surprise announcement of The Tenant.

Seeing that Europe has the restored/remastered The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp releasing in October, I think Criterion will release it at the same time since it has been long rumored.

I'm also guessing the upgrades of Kwaidan and the long expected Grey Gardens will materialize.

Rounding out the month with The Kid with a Bike and Week-End.

Luckily CC Has a few Mexican films: El Norte, Alambrista & Cronos. I also like Inaritu (contrary to popular Taste) and am hoping for a stateside release of even the rain, I've heard good things about it.

Edit: yeah I know he's spanish but Pedro Almodovar. It seems as If he's the favorite among cine-literate mexicans I know.

No argument from me there. I think Nolan's films are becoming increasingly overproduced. I'd like to see him do more with less.

I think we know what to expect from him now. An "awesome" viewing experience in the theater on the first watch. Subsequent viewings (if there are any) feel hollow and vapid. Inception just fell flat for me the second viewing. There's only so much expository dialogue one can take.

I also had 'The 39 steps' in my basket (19:99) but it was mysteriously removed. Thought it had gone out of stock but it's gone up to $29:74. I couldn't believe it!!!

Too slow for sure on my part then again sly on B&N's part for removing it like that but you win some you lose some.
I just checked...it's still $19.99 on their website.

The 29,74 price is a marketplace price, it's still 19.99. That's just silly that B&N would up it, since it's already out and is part of the Criterion Collection.

Of course I might not be pre-disposed to like this kind of film, they're hit or miss with me. I couldn't even enjoy it in the guise of "so bad it's good". In a way it reminded me of Naked Lunch, which is perhaps my least favorite in the Criterion Collection ever. Like I said it just must not be my thing, I'm sure many others will disagree with me.
Sounds like you should check out Andrzej Zulawski's other films while you're at it since it sounds like you enjoyed Possession so much. Possession should be getting a new DVD release this year, as well, so be on the lookout for it.

Quite right it is and have now ordered. If it wasn't for your posts I wouldn't have thought to look so thanks for that.

As to what I said originally, I had it in my basket at 19:99 with my other items and went to see if they was anything else I wanted and when I got back it had been removed from my basket and was up at 29:74 as a B&N price not marketplace. Obviously that's changed between then and now. Anyway as I said now ordered so all's well that ends well.

Which Pulse are you talking about? Do you mean the Japanese one (Kairo)? I was just thinking about watching my DVD copy of that again soon, but never would have thought of it as a criterion title. Or is there another one I dont know about?

Side note - it might have been mentioned already, but Charlie Kaufman has a kickstarter project for a stop-motion animated film called Anomalisa.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...mans-anomalisa

I'm mentioning this because when the pitch video talks about Kaufman, they name and show box art for his previous works. I don't know if this has surfaced before, but it looks like alternate art for Being John Malkovich.

The Tenant sounds like the most likely pick for this month's double-feature . I actually want to be surprised, a title I wasn't really expecting getting released or maybe a surprise upgrade. As much as I see October as Criterion's Halloween month I kind of hope for more variety. Looking at last year's October I kind of hope we get a month like that one. Two major upgrades, some new interesting titles and a Eclipse set. The Cranes are Flying and/or Taste of Cherry would be ideal !

You should check out some films from the directors I posted, they are REALLY good and represent an amazing part of our film history. I highly suggest you check out Ripstein and Fernandez if you get the chance. I like Gael Garcia Bernal, he is enjoyable in most pictures and his work with Almodovar was truly amazing (La Mala Educacion). That's probably his best performance.

I feel thankful now for the official cover's subtle insightfulness compared to that Charlie Kaufman cover, which i feel is just too literal.

Quick question, if I wanted to purchase a title like Last Emperor or 400 Blows from the criterion website, would I have to buy the replacement case as well if I wanted to have the plastic case or do new copies ship with the plastic cases now?

Nice. I think I like that Repulsion cover art better than the one chosen for the blu-ray.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody. I am definitely getting the three colors trilogy tomorrow but still have another 25 to spend in my budget. I was thinking of springing for either the Double Life of Veronique to get all the criterions of Kieslowski, Fanny and Alexander, M, or Yojimbo/Sanjuro.

What would you pick?
