Ok, fair enough. Still don't think it'll be announced tonight.

You never know. I could care less as I'm admittedly not a fan.

I want Rashomon and/or The Blob the most. In a Lonely Place would be a nice bonus.

After seeing the Masters of Cinema announcements I am sure Criterion would not be able to top it. So incredibly impressed. Die Nibelungen and The Passion of Joan of Arc announced in a single day should blow everyone's mind. Floating Weeds is an Ozu I don't think we will see in a long time released by Criterion, the icing of the cake. The real surprise here is Gate of Hell. If Criterion wants to release endless Japanese films, they should strive and for this kind. Also, Soul Power getting a re-issue is something I appreciate as I wasn't able to get the first one. Masters of Cinema are in a row, hopefully, it will last many more years .

Stupid question I meant to ask earlier, but does the MoC of Floating Weeds come with both versions?

I don't think it does, I think the silent version is with the BFI

Oh, those hilarious teasing bastards...

I just got a mail from them with the subject line "New on Criterion.com!"

It was a list of new features at their website.

If they were intentionally screwing with me/us I have to say, it's pretty funny.

It's weird too because it seems to happen fairly regularly. Every, I dunno, four weeks or so?

They can't possibly top Gate of Hell from MoC today anyways (unless they release it too).

Yeah, MoC's gonna be pretty freaking hard to beat.

Speaking of their line-up, Soul Power got me to thinking about When We Were Kings again. Does anybody have any idea if there have been any kind of rumblings about this anywhere?

MOC definitely announced a great list of titles, although it would be nice if I could play them. However, as great as their Joan of Arc release looks, and despite the fact that this is one of my most wanted upgrades, unless a release includes the Voices of Light score, I will be disappointed. I just love that score a lot--I listen to it probably once a week will working.

So this month's complaints will be even more plentiful due to everyone comparing Criterion to MoC and not just taking the Criterion titles and being happy with them, and buying the MoC titles they're squeeing about since most of the people who complain about the "crap" Criterion releases have region free players and could import those titles no problem and realise that not everything has to have a whacky C on it, especially since Criterions are all overpriced anyways and barnes and noble are being complete bastards about coupon usage as its s god given right to pay only 10 bucks for criterions since they only put crap out now?

Well that was a thumb full. I'm sorry for the snark. I'm still a bit excited by the announcements and will find at least one title to get.

Well, yeah they could, but.

Criterion announces Gate of Hell and A Page of Madness, then they win.

Not really. Criterion has already released Repulsion, so if they did Rosemary's Baby and The Tenant they would have his "paranoia trilogy" and could possibly even do a boxed set!

Region free players are cheap. there's also AnyDVD if you have a Blu-ray capable machine that can hook to your TV. If worse comes to worse, you could always watch the film with your preferred score playing through your stereo. that's what I would do.

You gotta even it out by complaining about how MOC locks their blu-rays.

I think the reason complaints manifest are that we generally know some titles that Criterion are sitting on while with most other companies each release is a surprise.

Therefore, when another month goes by without the Apu Trilogy or Limite or A Brighter Summer Day or El Sur or The Immortal Story or Oshima's Youth Trilogy or...you get the idea, I get more discontented. I'm sure others are the same.

True, and I can watch my Criterion DVD that has the Einhorn score, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be better to have it in lossless audio
