Thanks
I would just wait until your replacements arrive. Chances are, you'll end up spending money, albeit not much, on high resolution artwork. At least from what I've seen first hand.

Is there any possible way Criterion would be able to send me a replacement booklet that came with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button? I bought my copy from Blockbuster (great deal!) but I had to sacrifice the booklet containing the essay. Also, was this only released in regular bluray cases?

However, if I were a betting man, I would think the following titles (not counting the OOP titles) are unlikely to ever get the Criterion Blu treatment:

#37 - Time Bandits (Starz (formally Anchor Bay) will likely keep it for themselves)
#40 - Armageddon (Disney)
#42 - Fishing with John (shot on SD video?)
#86-88 - Eisenstein: The sound Years (with the trouble Criterion has had with securing Russian film elements lately, I don't see them getting good enough elements for this to be possible, as much as that pains me to say)
#100 - Beastie Boys Video Anthology (mostly shot on SD video)
#105 - Spartacus (Universal)
#151 - Traffic (Universal)
#197 - Night and Fog (short film, probably not worth production cost of Blu)
#289 - Hoop Dreams (shot on SD video)
#336 - Dazed and Confused (Universal)
#411 - Berlin Alexanderplatz (too long)
#433 - Patriotism (short film, probably not worth production cost of Blu)

Other titles licensed from big studios, like Universal's Brazil, Charade, or The Lady Eve, seem like they have a shot to stay with Criterion as they have always been handled correctly by them. Just a gut feeling on my part.
What are the odds that CC will release any of Jim Jarmusch's fims on blu? I'd love to see Down By Law, Stranger Than Paradise or Coffee & Cigarettes get a beautiful HD treatment.

I don't know about "Charade"...if they do, they'll really need to find some more lengthy special features to include in it. The DVD release only had:

- Audio commentary: A conversation with Stanley Donen and screenwriter Peter Stone
- The Films of Stanley Donen: A selected filmography, with an introduction by Donen biographer Stephen M. Silverman
- Peter Stone’s career highlights

I don't see Criterion doing any older releases on Blu that didn't originally have much solid special features.

Yes....contact J. Mulvaney at Criterion and explain your situation and you can get the booklet for $5.

I think Two for the Road is better than Charade...

Thank you. I just checked out your great collection. I'm quite envious, but I'll just have to continue delaying my gratification until my pockets are no longer malnourished. Question: do you store your CC by spine #?

Can't speak for him...... but I don't put mine in any particular order (alphabetical nor by spine number)

I have been thinking about doing it, but when I pull a disc out to watch, the case sits on the table until I'm done...... and I am usually too lazy to put it back where I got it when I'm done!!!!

I just got Che, 8 1/2, and Chantal Akerman Eclipse series 19 from BN using the Buy-2-Get-1-Free promotion. I'm going to do another order for Paris Texas and the Rossellini War Trilogy, but I can't think of a good third title. I have all the Criterion Blu-rays released so far, and I'm hesitant to get a lot of the DVDs because I'm not sure what's going to eventually come out on Blu-ray.

Any recommendations for good Criterion or Eclipse boxsets? I'm thinking maybe The Human Condition - they said there was no real chance of a BD for that anytime soon...

The film is public domain, but the elements Criterion used were licensed from Universal.

I am watching Play Time. Was choosing language and audio from the setup screen confusing to anyone else? You highlight the choice until the actual language track and subtitle "on" "off". I couldn't figure out why I didn't have subtitles when "on" was highlighted but it was the one that wasn't highlighted as the choice. Using my PS3 remote buttons was easier for me. Is it the same on other films in the Criterion collection?

With foreign movies (well, foreign for the American market) the subs are automatically selected, so you don't have to set up anything at all.

I didn't have any problems with Playtime, but, too, you must remember that is a film that has very little dialogue, anyway, so it doesn't make much difference if subtitles are on.

Watched part 1 of "Che" last night. I was blown away! What a film. I'm really glad I picked that one up. Can't wait to watch part 2. Criterion did an amazing job on this one.

I would like to suggest a few films that I don't believe would see a BD release any time soon:

1. Mario Monicelli's Big Deal on Madonna Street
2. Mikhail Kalatozov's The Cranes Are Flying
3. Catherine Breillat's Fat Girl
4. Claude Sautet's Classe tous risques
5. Dusan Makavejev's Sweet Movie

NAKED is an often overlooked movie that is amazing. And I dont see that getting a blu ray upgrade anytime soon. And while were at it NAKED LUNCH, the dvd transfer upconverted on the ps3 is really good and the movie is good to boot

Question for those who also collect MoC.

Where did you get a region free player and how much was it?

Only one of MOC's blu-rays is Region B right now... and that's "For All Mankind" because it's also released by Criterion. The rest are Region Free. MOC's upcoming "M" blu-ray will also be Region B, though, due to Criterion releasing it for Region A in the future. So, there's no reason why you can't have almost all of MOC's blu-ray releases right now.

But, if you're still looking for a Region Free blu-ray player, anyway, I got my Momitsu from xpcgear's website. Unless you find one of the other rare $100 players out there, I think you can expect to pay around $250 for region free playability with blu-ray.
